I'm trying to decide between the SIRS rifle length (can anyone verify whether or not these have the option of providing rail extensions past the FSB?), KAC MRE or DD FSP. Any suggestions or recommendations? I could have sworn that there was a user here who has a SIRS with an extension that went past the FSB but I'm not sure. thanks in advance!

Big fan of the MRE, but a DD might be a good choice too....

nice ar! I'm torn between the two. I definitely want rail extensions past the front site. Any difficulty with installation?

I believe it's the SIR 58mod that extends around the front sight base (more along the lines of a DD 9.5, really). It's just the midlength SIR with a cutout for the front sight, IIRC.

Thanks.

The front sight post is the only real PITA. Large hammers and swearing help

The MRE has always been high on the coolness scale, maybe because it was a little rarer and more expensive. Better stuff has come out since, but it still captures everyone's attention and admiration.

I asked my wife for an MRE for Xmas. She got me Spaghetti with Meat Sauce.

Well, if you weren't supposed to cover them, why would they make so many kinds of rail covers ?

Duffy thinks USMC03 and I have an unhealthy habit of using too many rail covers. He is, of course, misguided, but we like him anyway

Well, I have a tendency to shoot the fuck out of my guns, and exposed rails will burn my delicate little dickskinners. Plus I carry my rifles in the car and outside, and banged up rails is unnecessary. That's why they make covers!

Is the #58MOD a slimline model? Does the lower front part bolt on like (I believe) the rear lower part does? Does that mean the M203 can be used if both lower parts are removed? One more q, does it come with the top rail to make it a "single plane" or is that extra?

Thanks,
Rich

I think the KAC MRE is the best overall system of the FSP bunch so far. Unless Larue comes out with their own MRE type handguard, the Knight's unit is hard to beat if you want a rail system that extends around/past the carbine FSB. Persoanlly, I run two MREs at the moment on my two favorite rifles. Although I', thinking of starting a lightweight project with a DD 12.0FSP and a pencil barrel.

Forget about SIR.

Forget about Knights MRE.

LMT MRP will be my next choice.

One piece CNC upper from front to back is just too difficult to resist.

I'm going to require that you post pics of that one.
