Hello all new member here. Really great place you got here. I'm so addicted and this place put me over the edge. Well I got 5 AR's with a prebee Colt HBAR, couple tricked M4geries or whatever and a ban era 20" bushy and a post 20" A3 bushy.

I've read the recent SHTF ammo can thread (and everything else in site) and made the pic my desktop while contemplating a big 40mm can for each machine.

I've got tons of ammo types and lots of nice magazines mostly new D&H but plenty of Colt, Okay, and other descent mags as this site has taught me and a hundred of what you endearingly have named thermelts (USA mfr).

So that makes plenty of raw materials to load in the SHTF boxes.

Starting with all my good mags which I will first load with quality 55gr and 62gr ammo depending on the barrel twist for each rifle and make a nice stack for each gun I want to load up some mixed mags with tracer, Raufus, API, real tungstunAP's and whatever else I have stashed with some top shelf M855, Q3131 and M193 (ok maybe not front line stuff but all boxed bright and pretty without X's and PD's) and would love some opinions on how to make effective 30 rd mixes.

What do you think?

And thrilled to find your place and hope to contribute what I can.

I use CONTICO lockable storage cases that I have my SHTF gear, weapons and ammo. The first case I use for my personal weapons, ammo and gear, clothing, boots. The other 2 are for handouts, mags for handouts and ammo, spare parts, tools and cleaning gear.

I use tape and paracord for magpuls so I use black tape on the armor piercing ammo mags and green tape for the 55grain ball.I have a seven mag/ammo bandolier I carry 7 20 round mags. Those are untaped and loaded with federal match grade 77 grain hollow point, sierra match king bullet.

That ammo is for when I put on the 4 x sight.Thats medium range sniper mode.Thats why I love the AR.You can tailor it with ammo and accessories for a wide range of situations easily carried and man transporable for multi tasks.

I personally would not mix different rounds in each magazine.   The use of tracers I understand, but why would you want to otherwise mix slightly different rounds in a single mag, when each will have a slightly different POI.  If you feel the need to specify a round for use when increased penetration is necessary, then have rounds of only that type in the mag, and perhaps zero a specific gun for that round.  If you don’t want round specific guns (I don’t), put specific rounds in each mag , mark the mag with its contents, and know how that round behaves in your rifle as compared with your primary round (used to zero the rifle).

I would not load up the PD stuff for SHTF mags.    Just not reliable enough.

M855 isn't as effective as the Q3131 in the fragmentation department, especially out of carbine length barrels.

So, give what you list, I would load my primary mags with the Q3131.   I would load up and mark a couple special mags, probably 20 rounders.   One with M855, one with API, one with a tracer/API/AP mix.

Don't know waht Raufus rounds are.

I would not do the old "last 3 rounds of tracers" per mag.   Even the BG's know that trick, no sense advertising you're out of ammo.

Thanks Pun. I'm actually looking for logic for spacing of different types of ammo in the same mags. You know do I blow up a vehicle, light stuff on fire, shoot thru engines or shoot at bad guys first?

I am having fun here but a guy can dream right?

Pix, damn gun/gear porn is what's damn bad about this site.
I can take pix of piles of stuff but I just paid for a team membership a week ago and I don't think it's taken effect. Do we get pix storage as team members or d I have to join a hosting site. New to this.

So it seems like different mags with different nasties that you understand the POI consequences and could maybe note on the label. Mix some tracer with the regular stuff.
Google Raufus.

Team members have photo storage, based on the level of membership.

I use photobucket.com anyway.   Larger, easier, etc...

That's how I'd do it.   You may even want colored tape or such on the mags to make it clear what they are.

Gotta say, never spent any time on a porn site until now.h
Dog out.

Anyone else fill mags with a mix?

What if you kept all your bullet wieghts the same. Wouldn't that be close enough for hundred yard work?

I mean you could zero on some mags of your best standard stuff and keep a few Kelloggs variety packs for ER's

Doesn't anyone else carry a nice tactical variety for their 12 gauges?

BTW I sent a check for Bronze Team Membership a week or so ago. How long does it take for privileges?

Got to love them M4's with a beta. Is it possible to just buy the clear back for c-mags?
Guess I will give Rubin a call to find out

they also list m855 as ap ammo, I would not use gunbroker for firearms information.

bmk True rafus is only in 50 cal.

If I had a stash of ammo like that, I'd just get some different colors of tape and load the AP, etc., ammo into mags that are color coded.

I will try and find a safe place to shoot and post pix.

Find an ammo that with fill your needs (CQB, Mid-Range, Long Range) and mate it up to your particular weapons characteristic's(POA/POI) and shoot and train until you've found that comfort zone for your requirements. The key is to learn what each rifle will do with the various ammo that you feed it. Every rifle has a bit of a variance as to which ammo it likes to eat. Have fun.

On a side note it's spelled Raufoss and designated HEIAP. Developed in Norway, it's called NM140. In the states it's called "Raufoss" made by a Norwegian firm called RATEC and also has been produced by some other countries and yes, as has been noted it's a .50cal rd.

So I guess asking about front lawn claymore spacing is out of the question here?

I got a quick question about those drum magazines.

When you're firing those does the feed alternate from left to right side?

I'm assuming it does because of weight distribution.

Yep.

When loading, the ammo splits right and left at a molded ramp at the center-bottom of the magazine. When unloading they come back out the same way.

This allows the user to load only half a mag, and it's still balanced.
