I agree as long as its not taken to far with questions that are only given cursory discussion in a tacked thread and someone wants clarification. Perhaps request people announce they have already read the FAQ and still dont understand?

that would take all the fun away from the dupe callers.

I would like to mention that most site search's are screwed up by people calling dupe. you search a subject and get 200 threads calling DUPE and linking to each other. Really annoying.

No. If you think it's useless, delete it, and have a canned IM ready to send to the offending party.

Your poll is flawed. Where's the "I like pie." option?

Moderate for COC content etc, leave it up to first responders/dupe callers/noob flamers to send the poster elsewhere.

99% of everything posted on arfcom is a dupe of some degree or another. I think it would be a mistake to start locking threads because of it. Otherwise, just make the forum "read only", as just about everything has already been covered.

A lot of team members forget that the search function is restricted for time, and how far back they can look for non-members. So the dupe calling and locking of threads is pretty lame to be honest. This site is for learning and the sharing of information related to a single topic. So it does not bother me to answer a question to a new member, no matter how many times it has been asked. But some of the self-important assholes around here think it is a cardinal sin to ask a common question, and feel the need let everybody know about it. I'm just not one of those people....

I tend to agree with this, unless it is someone asking about "Will Wolf ammo hurt my AR" Those post should be locked, trashed, and the posting account banned for life.

Naw - dupes shouldn't be locked. But posting dupe and pointing the faq, and a general reaming of the poster should be just fine!

I would also do what you can to encourage people to put an actual relevant subject in the header.
If you do lock a post, though, please make sure the lockee knows how to reach you(obvious), or there is some other way to determine if it's the FAQ's that's at fault for either being incorrect, incomplete or needs revising. Either way, it should be entertaining.

The more posts the better, there's new guys finding this sight all the time asking the same old questions but that's what it's all about. Nothing stays the same concerning AR's or ammo. Hell no don't castrate the board.

Locking dupe threads seems extreme to me. People post questions generally because they want information. I try to gently point them to that information. Some people enjoy beating newbies up for their own reasons. I do not. If you want to point them in the right direction with a personal email that is not demeaning, and then lock the thread, that might be okay. I would even ask their permission to close the thread. After all, we want to be good ambassadors for the cause of freedom.

I know it's a PIA for you moderators to continue to see the same stuff posted knowing new folks haven't read the must read stuff, but I think a polite reply to them with the link to the oracle and the FAQs/tacked threads, etc. is enough. And that can be done by anyone in my opinion, you mods can see it's been addressed and go on with your already overload of work. If someone wants to respond then so be it.

If I see something that is a dupe or redundant I usually just skip it. I mean is it a bandwidth or storage issue? If so then yeah lock it with an explanation and links to what they need to read to come up to speed, otherwise, I vote no don't lock them, the community can take care of it along with the mods.

Dupe threads shouldn't be locked. The forum isn't just for information. It's also for community.

In b4 da lok, no wait, 87? Hell I forgot what the original post was.

I don't think the post should be locked until the OP is steered in the right direction, hell we were all new at this once and needed to be shown some direction, maybe just a gentle nudge would be in order? just my .02
