Hi Guys,

I've got an Armalite carbine right now, with MI quadrail handguards, and I'm working on all the extras.  I was thinking about a Retro AR for my next AR.  I just have a couple of questions.  First, is this something I would have to build?  How available are the specific parts needed (i.e.- Triangle handguards, A1 upper receivers, 3-prong FH, etc.)

Lastly, could a couple of guys post some pics of their Retro AR?  Full size and Carbines?  Thanks in advance.

Regards,
Pat G.

The Colt M-16 uppers from CDNNinvestments.com are hard to beat.  You'd have to get the 3 prong elsewhere since they come with the A1 flash hider.

Nice pics, guys.  Where these builds or did you find them already assembled?  Where could I look to find parts and such?

Thanks again, and regards,
Pat G.

Hey Stick...did you build that or was it a complete gun that you bought?

If you built it, who made what?

Like Mark said, CDNN is the best current deal going for a retro rifle.

Thankyou, and while I don't know about eye catching, it is probably the cheapest, or one of the cheapest.  I built that out of parts for the grand total of roughly $180.  Its a total mismatch of parts, but all in all, I think it looks pretty good for the price.

I always let people shoot my weapons at the range, and that one never seems to get much attention.  I think there are a handful of us who like retro/ old school carbines & rifles, while most people look at me as just having old stuff.

Sweet!

I'm deffinately itching for one now.  I looked at CDNN, and the prices seemed very reasonable.  When I fall into some extra money I will deffiantely start working on one of these.  Where is a good place to find some of the USGI 20rd. mags (like in the pictures)?

Thanks a bunch!

To me it's eye catching. It's a fighting rifle in the strictest terms. No rails, red dots, VFG, 3 point tac slings, flip-up sights and the like.

I'm going to admit that I have tossed around the ideal of ditching my M4 Bushy upper, with all the crap-M73, ARMS, Aimpoint, PRI front sight, and getting back to basics with a A1 upper like yours...

I love the old ones...I'm gathering the parts now for a carbine like yours...

Both of you should be commended for your outstanding photography skills.

Sitck, I agree that your CAR is really nothing special on paper, but your presentation makes it one of my consistent favorites on this site.

UXB, same thing goes for you with the 607 and XM clones.

Good job guys, keep them coming.

Nice pic.

Stick is your shorty an 11.5 with the 5.5 FS or is it a 16" barrel with a slipover?

Happened upon this all original (well almost, someone swapped out its A1 FH for the one seen… the correct A1 FH has sense been installed, but I haven’t taken any new (better) pictures yet) 1977 vintage Colt SP1 at my local FFL shop:

Planning on leaving it in its current condition as the "worn look" fits it nicely I think.

That looks pretty cool. Where'd you get the wood?

I would post pics of my SP1 clone (soon to be actual SP1 ) but Photobucket isn't letting me post anymore pics for the rest of the month

Very nice, everyone!

Everyone who has posted a pic or has an interested in this thread is a RETRO-SEXUAL

And I had better be given credit for the creation of the work "Retro-Sexual" in the 2007 edition of the Webster's New Dictionary of the English Language

Nice pics, even if they are retro
