I want to do it right and not jump into things.
I just saw an assembled DPMS Lower,LPK and buttstock for $280 at a local pawnshop.  That seems like a good price after reading around.

If i am to get that, what is next. Do I buy a complete upper kit, or uppers and barrel separate.

Sorry for the questions, I am a noob, but need to start somewhere.

I will never advocate buying a complete lower..

Find a lower with a rollmark you like and buy that off the net. like i got the spikes tactical lower because i liked their roll mark and the quality of the lower is good as far as casting marks etc. you can find all kinds of info on this board on different lowers.

next is to buy a rifle kit off Del Ton or the like and assemble it. i say del ton because you can swap out parts on their kits. so if you want a standard M4 stock or A2 stock your set but if you want something different like an ACE/Vilor/magpul etc you can pick one of those,

if you want a match trigger you can pick it up, or you can go with the standard LPK you can pick it then.

its a good way to save a little bit of cash and get exactly what you want. so there is quite a bit you can change out and do. the assembly is not that difficult and the tools are not that expensive to do it.

BTW this is how i figure out my pricing for things

Lower *for me it was 130 after transfer fee*
LPK $40-60ish so we'll say $50
Basic M4 style stock/buffer/BS you can find for around $70

so you save a little bit buy going the route of building it yourself. and you can get exactly what you want. also you can find deals here on the EE and the like to drop the price even more.

$280 is too much for a complete lower IMHO.  You can build one for yourself for less, or get a CAV lower complete for $200

thanks for the help.
so if I am correct the del ton rifle kit is the one that comes with everything but the stripped lower, so you almost need that first just to get the lpk to assemble it .

Then with the rifle kit you assemble the lpk into your lower you have sitting and waiting.
I think I had it backwards.

I thought I was to buy a lower and LPK, then the buttstock.  then when I save a little cash so  I could buy the upper/barrel kit

I thought $280 was a good price.

$130- Lower
$60- LPK
$60- Buttstock

$250

$280 is all assembled and out the door.
I will keep looking.  it will be a few weeks before I can start purchasing anyways.

Thanks,
Natron

this is the set up here I saw complete for $280.  the more I look around it seems to be a good deal, since it is assembled, no shipping and no FFl fees.

If you like it, and you are ok with $280, then get it.  Are they going to charge you sales tax?

We are just trying to save you some $$.

Take a look at this:  CMMG Lower Receiver with Internals

Comes assembled minus stock for $180.46 shipped. Figure $20 FFL fee and then $60 for a stock and you have a comparable item for $20 less, not including any possible sales tax savings. (8% of $280 is $22.40)

Then you have a complete lower for $260, and you can start shopping for a complete upper.  Figure $425 for a complete upper and you have a complete rifle for $685.

$685 is OK, but you can come out cheaper by choosing other components, building yourself, etc.  There are TONS of options.

you guys are great. thanks for the help and honest input.

I can get it for the $280 out the door.  He will take some money off and if you add 6% we are right there.

i was looking at the ovrall deal of no shipping and walking out the door with it.

When looking at Complete Uppers make sure they have a bolt and carrier. Just finished my first build with Del-Ton and a Doublestar lower from Semper Fi and I am so stoked. Its a rush firing your own gun that you built.

I saw this guy on gunbroker- FMF Tactical. you can buy a CMMG for 129.95+10 s/h. or Add alpk for 189.90+10s/h. Add 4 pos M4 stock 249.85+10s/h. For 40 = 0 s/h you can add a Bill Springfield trigger job. You can also get them to assemble for free.I also saw same pkg with DPMS parts. Im a noob but this sounds good to me. hinking.gif
