I replaced A2 stock with A1 stock (looks like new) from Moore Militaria. I ordered on Wednesday; stock here Friday.

Shortened A2 buffer tube screw to A1 length and filed smooth.

The A1 stock fits much better when shouldering my rifle. With the A2, I had to stretch to get proper nose to charging handle position.

I will be swapping out my other A2 stocks.

While I don't have any A1 stocks, I do set-up all my Magpul M93B stocks with presets at the LOP. They had it right with the A1.

I suppose if you prefer fixed stocks this is a decent option

Mine all have collapsible, but I don't own a 20"er

For those who aren't sure of the difference in length, I offer this photo (A1 on right)

In the spirit of full disclosure, the A2 stock is said to be 10-12 times stronger than the A1 (based on force required to break one) and the A2 has the trap door for storage of cleaning kit or other goodies

AtlantaFireman:
Here is a link to the Cav Arms C1 buttstock it is the same length of pull as the A1.

A1 with A2 buttplate. Works well for both standing and prone. Proper eye relief.

I do wish i had hunted down a new/like new Colt one though. I ordered an A1 Stock shell from Fulton Armory, but they are not mill-spec. Made my trap door wiggle. fixed it with 0-ring/spacer for sling swivel screw. I think the Fulton Armory A1 stock is the same as the Calvary arms stock.

Yep, the A1 stock is on my A2 carbine. Just the right pull for me. I use the standard 'Warsaw Pact' AK stock, too, and find the M1 Carbine to be just right. BTW, My A1 stock has a cleaning kit hideaway. In fact, that's the main reason I went back to it from the collapsible stock - I like the idea of carrying the cleaning kit in the stock. Must be a late version. I've been eyeing another collapsible, though and probably will go back.

during the ban i used a1 length stocks and preferred it much over the a2 also have the a1 length vltor on my beowulf and like it too.

but since the ban died i swapped most of them over to collapsable stocks.

I like the A-1 stock, no moving parts to break.
I have a couple AR's with A1 stocks.
The collapsible stock AR's I have I set a #4 out, it fits me perfect (and it's also the same length as an A1 stock).

+1 on the SP-1 type of stock.
I also like the fact the buttplate doesn't have the "teeth" on them like the Bushmaster for example.

I A1 stocks on my ARs until September 14, 2005.

He waited exactly one year after the ban to change his stocks out.

Just to be safe.

I'm not sure about the price now but I bought from him before and was very satisfied.
He's one of the good guys

+1 testify brother!!!

I'm 6'2" and the A1 length is a lot more comfortable then the A2. I have no idea how shorter people or women use the A2 comfortably or why the powers that be ever switched to the A2 length to start with?

I know collapsible stocks are cooler, and I do have a few, but for a great check weld and pure shooting enjoyment, a fixed A1 stock is hard to beat. It's a shame that Colt "CS" stocks are not easier to come by.

Unless you guys had an 11 year AWB.

I use the very early A1 stock; the kind without a trapdoor and only have one screw (for the buffer tube). The buttplate, per se, is rubber.

I think it's worse for you to have thought you were pointing out someone else's ignorance, even in kidding, when really you were just showing up your own forgetfulness.
