I will be getting a Windham SRC .308 an been trying to figure out what optic to put on it.
Anyone running a RDS on there .308 AR. Im looking to use it for SHTF with in 200 yards.

I had an Aimpoint Comp M3 on my 16" AR10. but I recently swapped it out for a Leupold 3x9 Firedot TMR.

The RDS was fine, I just wanted some magnification. Don't but a cheap "made in China" red dot for a .308, they usually won't last very long.

A RDS will do just fine for SHTF, or 200 and in. There's no need for overkill for a defensive rifle. Unless I NEED magnification, I prefer a RDS, as it's faster and lighter anyway. There are guys at classes that easily ring steel at 300+ with nothing more than a RDS. For precision.... well that's a different story. But for SHTF, I'm a fan of "keep it simple, keep it light".

Thanks, I was thinking of going with either a Aimpoint PRO or Trijicon MRO.

I agree!

Last week I decided to remove my Trijicon 1-4x24 with bobro mount and fire a few shots with the flip ups. First time in quite a while since I pulled the scope off and I forgot how much lighter it feels without the scope. Huge difference. Considering using the scope on something else now and replacing it with a micro of some sort. Hell, its only money. Got to have a reason to keep working.
