Ok, I'm building one of these recce style uppers. I'm trying to decide between Dennys profile or ADCOs profile. Help me out; whats the difference between them, and what are the pros and cons of each?

I appreciate the help!

Are you asking about the profiles (i.e., contour) of the barrel? Or the barrels themselves?

Because these two barrels are really apples and oranges.

Corey

EDITED to add: Sorry. My misunderstanding. I thought you were referring to ADCO's Giffman group purchase barrel.

i think the barrels are exactly the same, both from White Oak and 1-7 twist with Wylde chamber.....Denny's is profiled a little lighter and ADCOs is Fluted under handguards, what I would love to know is after 60-75 shots of continuous fire which one held its accuracy better?

I would have to vote for both...they both produce high quality weapons..that get the job done.

The only consideration that would tip the scales either way...is weight.

Ditto

Is Denny's barrel a little on the light side for SS? For example, as compared to the profile of a Lilja Recce barrel?

woo hoo for Denny's barrel.

Denny designed his for running around with, with the ability for first shot accuracy. I made mine heavy to maintain accuracy with sustained use.
Heres the 600yd range report with my contour. And if you want fancy, I have a batch incoming that will be PacNor 1:7.5.

oh god dammit

Tell us about the PacNors; same profile, midlength gas, etc?

Where can I find Denny barrels? I found the ADCO site, but they were sold out of the type of barrel that I need. I am replacing my M4 profile barrel with a more accurate one of the same length, so it would be best if I got a lighter one anyway.

ETA: Oh yeah, what is recce?

I would love to hear more about these barrels. Like how long are you going to make me wait for one?

Hey steve, is my chamber a wylde!!!!!!!???? I don't care either way. If it is, that's really cool. I assumed it was a nato.

I got a 9/16" 3 shot group at 100 with Q3131a. Needless to say I was impressed because with my old upper I could never ever get that stuff to group.!

I guess the next thing to do in this discussion is to have a Denny's profile
made from one of those Pac-Nor barrels...

I hereby volunteer my Stag upper to be a beta tester :)
Link Posted: 5/15/2005 8:35:45 AM EDT
What are the dimensions on these two different profiles?

That would help us understand what this is all about.

Dont know what Denny's are under the handguard but (I am pretty sure)Zack had a
Kreiger 17" 0.700" under the handguard, and 0.740" beyond the gas block..
I would snap up one of these in a mid length 16" Pac Nor in a heart beat.

Info on Denny's recce barrel:

10. Barrel is .840 in front of the chamber and tapers to .740 behind front sight VS .640 on M4 for more chamber support and a more rigid barrel.
11. Weight of barrel at 1lb 14oz. is only 4-5 oz heaver than M4 but much stronger than M4

Awwwww man.

Not to sound like a prick, but I was hoping for a price war between the two!!!

Instead, these two vendors seem like good friends.

I've dealt with ADCO and they're +A, hopefully I'll deal with Denny soon.

Denny,
What is the best way to contact you for ordering a barrel? I tried to send you an email, but your email isn't working. I've tried calling but keep getting voicemail. Is there a better time to try to reach you? I'm working nightshift out of the country for a while, but wanted to get a barrel ordered so it is waiting for me when I return. PM me with the info.

I vote other. All my current RECCE's (5) have Douglas 16" mid-length. They all shoot sub-MOA, the worst is 0.5 at 100/200M (in both 5.56MM and 6.8SPC). I am currently working the details on a Lilja barrled twin of one of my current RECCEs.

After much consideration, I decided to buy a fluted recce barrel from ADCO for my build. Denny is great to do business with, so nothing against him. (In fact, he's sending me the upper for this build.)

Now I need to decide between a 12" or 13.2" Larue handguard...... Anybody with a 12 that wished they had bought a 13.2? Anybody with a 13.2 that wished they had bought a 12?

Not only is it great info, BUT it's great to see two "competing" industry partners acknowledging and respecting each other in a collegial manner. I myself (as Steve may remember from many of my badgering "20 questions" type emails) have been considering something like a "lighter SPVarmintactical" type rifle. I like the idea of a 18" RRA varmint, but something a wee bit lighter. Would y'all say that the ADCO profile would be the ideal "in between" weight that wouldn't compromise sustainable accuracy (most likely nothing beyond 300 yards) yet still be OK as a "walking varminter"?
