I have been out of the AR loop for a while and am wondering what the loop on the ranger plates are for? I asume they are to help retain the mag when you change them out or something but have no idea realy. So what is the function of them? Thanks. I know this is probably a retard question but I asked it any way.

To assist in getting the mag out of the mag pouch, and it doubles as protection for your mag when it hits a hard surface after ejection. Plus, they lock into place and can't work loose.
