I got my RRA AR-15 Coyote Rifle (pic) last October (my orginal thread got archived) and this weekend finally got to stretch it out at the local shooting club I have recently joined.  300 yards with iron sights, the furthest I had opportunity to shoot it previously was only 100 yards.  I have not shot 300+ with anything in several years.  I was using standard iron sights I bought for the gun from RRA, a stand alone rear sight and a front sight that mounts to the weaver gas block, both use standard front post and rear apertures.

I had earlier sighted in the AR at 50 yards using the 2MOA below the 300meter setting for my initial zero.  For this shooting I put put the rear sight on the 300 meter mark, yeah I know 300 meter is ~328 yards but figure it would be close enough.

I was shooting over a bench with shooting bags.  The temperature was getting close to 70F and the wind was not too bad but there was a pretty good heat mirage coming off the cool damp ground being warmed by the sun.  The target was a 12inch Dirty Bird target.  The ammo was Sellier and Bellot 55gr M193 I recently purchased from Natchez.

Well here (pic) is the best 10shot group.  Its about a 7.5 inch 10 shot group.  Given that a 12 inch spot appears only about half the width of my front sight that seems pretty good to me.  I think the rifle is capable of better that this ~2.5MOA group but between my eyes, the iron sights and a nasty heat mirage I can live with it.  I think I am probably going to switch out my front post for a national match front point might help for these long shots.

Thanks for looking

Me either. For Iron Sights that is pretty damn good.

Looks like you are doing real well as is but I have a couple of sugestions that might help.
Sounds like you are on the right track with the finer sights, shooting at black target bulls with decent light condition the issue type sights are too coarse and the finer NM type will help.
I have found that I personally shoot better prone with a sling than off a bag type rest.
I have no experience with S&B 5.56 ammo but it might be interesting to try a couple of different brands. At 300 yards tiny differences add up to lots of inches real fast.
        Keep up the good work.

Thanks guy for the compliments and suggestions.  I definitely want to try some really good ammo in it.  So far most of what I have been shooting has been surplus and Prvi Partizan.  The Sellior and Bellot was some of the first factory ammunition I have shot.  I want to try some Black Hills and maybe some Hornady or similar.

Very nice looking rifle and a very nice looking group.  The ammo will make a difference at that kind of range.  Looks like it can only get better.

Nice group.  Last summer I tried shooting my RRA middy at 600 yds.  Wow, things tend to look really small that far away.

I haven't shoot 600 yards since high school when I would go over to Camp Perry and shoot the Spring DCM match with my dad.  600 yards with and M1 Garand.  The target was huge 4-5ft across IIRC and I remember the first time I fired at the target at 600 yards and after a few seconds the scores pulled the target down into the pits to score.  I was amaze I hit it.
