Yesterday there was a good thread on suggestions for rails and excessories for a flat top 20 inch HBAR. I would appreciate any suggestions on a non-removable A2 20 inch HBAR. I already have an ACOG and Eotech and am tired of attaching them to the top of the handle. Thanks.

I can't help you there, but I've always wondered? What dont people like about attaching to the carry handle? Is it the inability to rest your cheek on the butt pad?

I suggest you get a flattop.
Otherwise, I'm sure you could get a FF-rail and mount an EO out on the forend...but do you really want all that weight out front?

Unless you really need the elevation to get you to 600 yards, the fixed handles are a waste...  Maybe a new carbine or middy flattop upper is in order?

Fixed it.  As for Mr. Garand's question - yes the carry handle mounts put the scope/reflex sights up too high for a consistent cheek weld and make your neck hurt after long-time use.  Plus, unless you get a quality carry handle mount, the zero can change if it gets bumped or removed.  The flat top rail is much more stable and yields repeatable zero if devices are taken off and put back on.

Forgot to address the original post (oops ): You can always get a rail system to replace your handguards to put the Aimpoint or an Eotech on, but the Acog has to go on the carry handle mount unless you want to replace that upper receiver with an A3/A4.

There are 4 points of contact between a shooter and their firearm.  They tend to be rather important, and removing the cheek to stock weld isn't a good thing.

I would have to say that you would be better served paying roughly $100 and getting a flattop.

Thanks stick, can't say that the handle mounted optics appealed to me, but I could never figure out what exactly was wrong with it, other than it simply didn't look right. Nothing like the look of an ACOG on a 20'' flattop.

Except the look of an ACOG on a 14.5 flattop ... Ok Ok, I think we can agree... Theres nothing like the look of an ACOG PERIOD .

How about a troy or sampson rail for the Eotech? You are kind of SOL with the ACOG, though, unless you swap for a flat top.

Thanks for the advice. Seems like the 1:8 might be the best of both weight worlds!
