Does the RRA require a 9mm hammer?  I don't know if I need this or if I can just use the stock .223.  I know the Olyarms doesn't, but don't know about the RRA.  Thanks.

A unmodified RRA requires a 9mm hammer.
You can get your bolt ramped and use a 223 hammer, but you need a early AR15 hammer or a m16 full auto hammer.

Not necessarily true. As long as the hammer doesn't have the step at the end, it'll work.

The hammer on the right is what you need for the RRA 9mm.

fijfi has it correct.  And every hammer I've ordered from RRA comes like the one on the right.  No need to spend the money on a separate 9mm hammer [:)]

.223 buffer and spring work just fine too.

Yep, forgot to mention about the buffer. Long time Gloftoe. And I leave for yet another week on the wonderful Mississippi, in a couple of hours. Still haven't had time to do the Sten Conversion [:(]

I will have to differ with you on that point.
I was on the phone this morning with PETE @ legaltransfers and he said ALL of the ones he has now is the late model (the ones with a step).

I ended up ordering a m16 hammer and getting them to remove the offending part to make it a Semi.

This what I've been using all along, before and after my bolt ramping. I've had this hammer for a number of years.

FYI
That is a m16 hammer that is cut.
Look at the following picture

but I could be wrong, the bolt hold is blocking 1/2 the hammer

Just out of curiousity, how can you differ with Gloftoe on this?
Link Posted: 12/16/2003 2:56:48 AM EDT
simple.

Hammer on the LEFT is a LATE MODEL ar-15 model.
This is what Pete says all the RRA hammers look like.  I sent him a link to the hammer site to verify prior to him shipping me something I didn't need via UPS RED.
They are what the BUSHMASTER hammers look like, according to the tech that answered the phone. In fact, they are what ALL the current issue hammers(that I have found) look like.
I was only able to find a M16 hammer that someone was kind enough to modify for me to early AR15 (SEMI).

The hammer on the right, is a early model.
When the AR15 first came out they used a M16 hammer and just cut the offending part off.
It is ALSO the exact same type hammer that SBR7_11 is running in his gun.
It is the exact same type as what I am currently running, and what I have on order.

Mine is a M-16 hammer with the lug cut off, still "raw" where the lug was cut-off.

You will find some of the parts places are selling this style hammer, I think DPMS does.

Just go to the show, get one, cut it (the auto-lug off), and use it whether or not the bolt is ramped or not.

Here are a couple of others, although I don't know if they all sell just the hammer or just the lower pars kits.

CCMG

Del-Ton http://www.del-ton.com

Not sure if the Del-Ton image is going to link, if not go to lower parts, standard, hammer. This one is $14.95

[blue]edited to say: Yep, image didn't work, changed to url[/blue]

DELTON hammer

OK..
In order for the 9mm setup to work you need a hammer from the following places

DPMS
CMMGINC
DELTON

or ANY full auto hammer(burst or full)

Just make sure it looks like the picture above(in this post)

I got my m16 hammers in yesterday.
They are just what the doctor ordered.

UNDERDOG, the hammer is inbound to you via UPS.

Try it out and let me know.
I will bet all of your problems will disappear.

Will a CAR stock and buffer work, or just the A2 long style?  I'd like to put a collapsible on there, but won't if I need to buy all sorts of other stuff.  Thanks.

Edited to ask, will the Kurts Kustom Firearms STEN mag block thing work with the RRA, or is that an Oly only accessory?

If you choose to use the "CAR" stock (short buffer/tube).... Use the std carbine spring, and you might be able to get away with the std 2.8oz CAR buffer or the 3.8oz "H" buffer for semi-auto, though there is a 9mm buffer listed, there is no weight given, but I would suspect it is in the 5oz range...
I have not tried it, as I use the std A2 stock assembly with the std 5.2oz rifle buffer....

If you run full auto, you will definitly need a 9mm buffer with the CAR stock assembly, or one of the following "Special Purpose" buffers listed at SAWLESALES --
Buffer (A) 6.3oz
Buffer (B) 7.1oz
Buffer (X) 7.9oz [/blue]

That sucks.  So basically, there's no way to get a 9mm upper with mag conversion for under $500.
Link Posted: 12/18/2003 3:25:01 AM EDT
well, there was this guy that made a lower that worked with STEN mags.
It was cool as cool can be.
But the problem is that he is not a FFL SOT so he can't sell his handywork.

Yeah there is a way to get a 9mm with mag adaptor for under $500 but it is not for STEN mags.

Eagle20, when was that picture created?  All of my Bushmasters have hammers with the notch on them.  Would the hammer in your picture be an older style?
Link Posted: 12/24/2003 10:59:56 AM EDT
it is a older bushmaster.
the current issue doeshave the notch.

in order to get a GOOD hammer you need a DPMS hammer.
CMMG has them in stock.
You can also do what I did and get a m16 hammer and remove the F/A tit off of it.
