I'm thinking about buying a RRA Standard A2 for competition (I don't need a super match grade barrel) but I'm wondering about this 223 Wylde chamber.  I usually practice with surplus XM193 and I want to know if this chamber is going to give me problems with this ammo, or any ammo for that matter.  I tried the search and came up with squat.  TIA

Wylde chamber will shot 556 no problem.

I hate to tell you this, but you will be disappointed trying to make headway in HP with a standard upper, once you figure out the basics.  The non-free floating barrel, the too slow rifling twist, the coarse rear sight adjustments, and a trigger heavier than it needs to be will be your handicaps.

Since you are a beginner, you need more than anyone all those details that make a HP service rifle different.  Why?  Because you will never make progress if you can't figure out why your shots are falling out of the ten ring.  Was it me?  Was it the rifle?  Was it the ammo?

Buying a standard upper and later upgrading is ALWAYS more expensive (by several hundred dollars that are better spent shooting match ammo for practice) than buying the right one from the start.

I would strongly advise you to change course now.

The Wylde chamber is a NATO chamber with a slightly shorter throat.  Shooting .mil ammo is not an issue.

Thanks SWO.  I'm not really a beginner and I've never shot a rifle that I could outshoot.  I've gotten into the 400's in highpower with an M1 and I can really shoot the crap out of my 6920.  So I figured that the RRA Standard A2, which comes with a NM trigger, would be the way to go.  The only change I might make at some later point would be to add a NM rear sight.   Besides, if I put a match barrel on it I won't be able to practice near as much because I won't be able to afford the ammo!  Am I off here?

Good advice posted so far.  I was the weakest link in shooting performance(still am).  You don't need the added baggage of a rifle that is simply outclassed by those in use by fellow HP cometitors.  I was in the same boat as you, and I have Rock River NM now.  When I shoot ugly, now I know why.  It's me, not my RR.  Just my 2 cents.
