Is the pistol grip screw use a flat head screwdriver or a hex head? I am buying tools and need to know which to get. If it is a hex head, what size?

Hex head. The one I used has no size marked on it.

3/16"...

edited to add: If you're buying tools special for your AR, try and find a long T-handled 3/16", it makes installing and removing the screw much easier...

Agreed. The pistol grip is deep, and a short allen key will not work.

I just put together a lower from a RRA parts kit. I couldnt find an allen wrench long enough, so I used a regular flat head screwdriver instead. it was one of those narrow head ones that I believe are for electricians? Anyway, It fit just fine in the hex opening.

I picked up one of the T-handle sets at Advance Auto for $4.00. Cheap, but works....!!

I cut a slot in my hex head screw with a dremel before I install it. Can use either a hex driver or a slot screwdriver that way. WECSOG forever!!!!
