I have an FN SLP shotgun that I bought the factory tri-rail for.   I mounted a scout light on the tri-rail and run the pressure switch back to the forend.  However, because the M600C Scout light is longer than the rail, it sticks past the barrel about a 1/4 - 1/3 of an inch.   The weapon light is about an inch and a half away from the barrel where it is mounted.

I don't think the light will get damaged from the blast of the shotgun since most of the blast will be coming straight out of the shotgun.  But I wanted to run it by a few people to make sure you thought it was okay before I shoot it that way.

Just a recap:  The light sits an inch and a half away from the barrel at the 7-8 o'clock range, and sticks out about 1/4 - 1/3 inch past the barrel.

Tag for responses.

You won't have any trouble with projectiles hitting the light, the actual muzzle blast might be an issue, though I would think the shock-proof LED in the Surefire would be more than capable of handling the shock.

Just to be safe and not to risk damaging an expensive light, I switched my scout light for a mini-scout off of another gun.   Now I am good to go.

How do you like the mini-scout?

I am looking for a light for my rifle and have pretty much narrowed it down to the X300 and the Mini-Scout. The specs on each from Surefire show that the X300 runs for something like 2.4hours on 2 batteries while the M300 runs for something like 1.3hours on one battery (longer time per battery). I like the fact that the mini-scout has a pad and a push button switch, and think the toggle on the X300 might be awkward, but it would be ambidextrous. The only advantage to the X300 I can see is the fact that it is $80 less.

I love the mini-scout light.  It is very light weight, has 110 lumens, and only takes one battery like you said.   It can accept any type of Surefire switch including the SR07 rail mounted switches.

The mini-scout hugs the rail tighter than the X300.     The new X300 have 170 lumens, so they are brighter at longer distances.

Brightflashlights.com is a AR15.com partner.  They sell Surefires very cheap.  You can get the mini-scout or Scouts for very cheap there, but you have to call for pricing since it is well below retail.   They have a sale on Scout (the full size M600C) and they are VERY cheap.

Thanks for the heads up. Anyway you could PM me the price of the full-size that you found? I was looking at X300 for $250, M300 for $330, and M600 for $420.

Also check eBay. There are a bunch of legit M600Cs going there for right around $200. The mini Scouts tend to be a little more.

ETA: I just got a new sealed M620v on eBay for $226 shipped. Considering I just sold my old M962XM07 for $180, not a bad upgrade for $46 (even though I don't have NV ).

I tend to stay away from auction sites, but it does surprise me that the M600 would cost less than a M300. Is it just because the M600 has been out longer?
