Good morning all,
Just have a couple quick questions pertaining to a potential pistol build.
1) From what I'm seeing you can use any lower as long a it's "New" and was never used as a rifle.
Yes, it can never have been built into a rifle. Do these lowers have to be marked specially for a pistol build?
I was told no
2) I'm looking at 10.5" barrel length - the assembled uppers seem reasonably priced. Is it just easier to purchase a completed upper for this type of build?
Only you can determine what is best for you. It depends on your ability to build an upper. I have seen a few that are priced pretty damn low and hard to beat with your own build. If for hunting purposes remember in NYS if your pistol barrel is 8" or less you can have a ten round mag. If over 8" you are limited to five rounds.
3) Has anyone utilized the AR mag lock?
As far as the ARMaglock or the MR2 many have said it does not pass muster but others have said it is fine. Fact is no one really knows as no ruling has been given. We need a test case so please do it and than show it to the NYS Police and your DA . I live in the great state of NY and removable magazines create issues. Just wondering if anyone has used it on a pistol build before. Otherwise I have to get a fixed magazines lower.

5) How have you built after SAFE?
Working on it now. I remember reading weight limits etc etc
Weight limits do not apply when you have a fixed mag as than it s no longer an evil AW.
6) When getting the lower from your ffl do you have them write it up on a receipt to take to the count clerks to have added on your permit?
If buying from an FFL it was stated in another forum to have them list it as a pistol. If you already have the stripped lower you can just add it to your license. I'd have to have my barrel length and caliber selected at this time?
Yes Also, the make would be the lower brand?
Yes Or are these questions to ask the Clerk?
The one obstacle is if your clerk knows what they are talking about. Another thread I read the poster had all sorts of issues as his clerk was clueless and referred him to the state police and that did not turn out well. He got the "that is illegal: "you better not do that".
Thanks
