Hey all; I have an armalite m15a2 and i'm looking at my options for getting it converted to have evil featureshingI have an HBAR barrel.  Someone told me that if I get a bayo lug put on, the bayonet won't fit with that barrel.  I already have the bayonet, btw.  Brand-new Imperial-made I got for $20 at a gun show.

If the above is true, would it be more worthwhile to just swap the barrel out with a "regular" barrel that already has the bayo lug and flash hider?  I may have a chance to get a used SP1 upper with these features, so I was thinkin about swapping just the barrel and then selling the stripped upper and my old barrel for whatever I can get for them.  It seems to me that a barrel swap is easier and cheaper to do than put a new sight tower and hider on, so I may do it myself, or pay to have it done.

Either way, what should I do?  Heck, can I use a bayonet with my hbar I got now?

do you have a pinned\welded\permanent flash hider?
if so, measure the diameter and see if it too big

Okay, I'll bite. I'm not familiar with ArmaLite barrels, but I see no reason why a bayonet wouldn't fit on an HBAR. There's an issue with 16" barrels and bayonets due to the spacing between the flash suppressor and front sight base, but I'm unaware of any problems due to barrel diameters.

OK.  thanks guys.  the flash hider is screwed-on then pinned.  i already know it won't fit over the compensator on the barrel now.  however, i have an a2 flash hider for it anyhow.  i know it'll fit over that; i test fitted it.

Standard M7 GI bayonet fits on my midlength HBAR just fine, if what you're worried about is the diameter interfering with the handle.

Snake-that's what I was worried about.  I'm not worried about the compensator, because as I said, I got an A2 FH to put on there; it was the barrel's thickness I was worried about.

I know 2 guys that have SP1 uppers, and I'm hoping to buy one.  I'll probably refinish it and put it on my gun, to get that more realistic Vietnam -type weapon, and keep the A2 upper in case I ever want to switch back.
