I have Bushmaster ar-15. It has the original rail system and hand hold. I was told that I cannot use the OTAL laser with the system I have as it would not mount to the handhold. I was told I need a picatinny rail system, and they run about $400.

I don't think they are that much.

Can anyone advise if I was told correctly regarding the OTAL not fitting on my current configuration.

Also, where can I buy a new system for my gun?

Any help from the experts would be most appreciated.

What is the "original rail system"? If you have the standard handguards, they aren't stable enough to mount a sighting system on. There is no way that you will be able to keep it sighted in with as much movement as there is on a standard set of handguards.

If you are on a budget, there are $100 rail systems out there, the YHM two piece and FF systems are two. Oly makes one also.

Thank you for the information. I am finding out that the guy lied to me about the price or just wanted to sell me one of the more expensive types.

I will be able to mout an OTAL laser on any picatinny rail system I choose, correct?

Also one more thing, do I need a 4 rail system? Is that better in case you want to attatch more things like on the side?

I you are going to get a rail system, you might as well get a four rail system, as that is the way most come. There are a few that aren't, but I think they are specialty type systems and really don't apply to what you probably need.

A good starting system would be the YHM two piece carbine system. See the second product down on this link.

Thanks very much for the information.

It would probably be your best bet to get a good rail system. I have not seen many single or dual rail systems or setups out there that I would recommend. Get a good handguard rail, I would recommend the YHM 2 piece or the surefire rail. I have the YHM rail myself and it was $112.00 shipped from Brightflashlights on this board.

Thank you SO much for your information also. You just saved me a few bucks.

Thank BOTH of you for the very informational replies.

I am new to all of this. I'm not new to helicopters though so if you have an intertest there feel free to ask.

I got lucky and got one when they first came out. Bright was handing them out like a crack dealer in a playground for $89.99. I played with it for a while, but then I discovered FF.
