I have not shot in about 7 or 8 years for various reasons (main one being no place to shoot anymore). I recently decided to get back into shooting and found this forum and been reading the threads for about 2 weeks. I had a colt hbar in the late 80's and early 90's that shot quite well. I traded it after the accuracy declined.
I recently bought a new bushmaster with a 16inch barrel and have shot it twice in the past week. It shot fairly nice with most rounds. (5 shot groups in the 1 1/4 to 2 1/2 with various ammo. I was looking for some SHTF ammo and saw that many were using Q3131. I had some old boxes dated 1994 but locally found 5 boxes of the newer stuff (Q3131). I wasn't real happy that it had mixed headstamps from 04 and 05 etc. I was never impressed with Q3131 from my old stock but it was OK. I fired 4 or so 5 shot groups with the new stuff trying to match headstamps for some kind of consistancy. It really shot bad with groups in the 4 to 6inch range and this was from sand bags.
I had planned to order several thousand rounds but changed the order.
I know it could be my gun did not like it but I didn't have a problem with other ammo and I shot 5 or 6 different kinds
Any explanation as this doesn't seem typical to other users.
What about the xm 193 that wideneres has has. Is it mixed head stamp in a box or not?
Thanks for any help .
BTW I just bought a Varminter and plan to sight it in tomorrow if its not real windy. I have to drive about 50 miles to the range.

Both are "seconds". Good stuff, but not 1st rate. Still, my go to ammo.

I have and shoot both. Both are great and fairly clean compared to others.

shot a group of Q3131 today and it was around 1.5".........must be your gun.

Seriously though, something external has to be wrong to get a 6inch group out of an AR.

I can't blame it on the gun as all the other ammo shot between 1.25 and 2.25 inches. The Winchester (Israeli from Wal mart) shot consistant 1.25 to 1.75 5 shot groups. Only the Q3131 shot horrible. I shot several groups with the 1994 stuff and it was much better but not up to par with the wal mart and american eagle ammo.

Dont feel bad. I have a barrel that shoots wild groups( 6") at 50 yards with xm193 thats with a brand new barrel too. It shoots it so bad I couldnt even sight it in the first time out! It loves m855 and also the Winchester from Walmart ( easily 2" groups). This will cause a flame war but the xm193 and q3131 is just too hot for my likings. If I need SHTF rounds Ill go get some .223 75 or 77 grainers.
