Hi,

I would like to mount a scope on my flat top AR with a standard front sight base.

How high do the rings have to be for the scope not have the front sight in its field of view?
[receiver clearance is not a problem even with a low scope].

Thanks!

If the scope has around 3x magnification or higher, the front sight tower's not going to be visible, even if the scope is directly behind it. (the focal length of the scope allows it to "see through" the front sight tower)

You'll want 1.4" to 1.6" high rings.  This puts the center of the recticle a little above the front sight post.  Mr. Zardoz is correct that the front sight post will be barely noticable with a magnified optic.

The scope mounts from ARMS, Armalite and RRA are worth looking at.
