Hello, I've just been welcomed into the world of AR's. My friend was in desperate need of money. He asked if I wanted to buy an AR for 700.00. It's a preban Colt AR-15 Sporter Match HBar that's in 99+% condition minus the surface scratches on the buttstock. It's had a total of about 400-500 rounds since it was bought in 92.

Was it a good deal and what is the value of the gun?

   Tnx, William

No, you got ripped-send it to me and I'll give you your $700 back-hate to see a new guy take it in the shorts like that.

Sounds too good to be true.  What's the serial #?  If it is a preban then it was a hell of a deal.

Yup: MH086020 and below are pre-ban

He could have charged you twice that much and it still would have been a "fair" deal... not great but fair. You got a screaming deal. That is almost what they cost brand new prior to the ban. You can't even find a lower for less than $1,000.00 anymore. Lucky bastard.

Why do I always miss these deals?  I've been looking for the right price on a preban for 6 months, I guess I'm just too much of a tight wad.

I have a Colt SP1 serial SP1695xx that I would like to sell. I believe that it is a pre-ban, but I cannot be sure. It has a retracting stock, it is almost perfect (give or take the few surface scratches) and the barel looks brand-new. I don't know much, except tha it says "Fire" and "Safe" on the selector. It also has a small flash supressor.

I am not sure if I want to sell it yet, but if I do, I would like around $1600-$1800 for it.
It is in NY right now, but I am in NJ. I need to get rid of it because pre-ban AR's are illegal in NJ.

My friend received the gun in 93 just before the ban set in. I guess his father, a rich kidney specialist, gave it to him for his 17th birthday. He only wanted it to say he was a badass. So, he kept it in a closet for most of it's life....
