I bought a can this dated 18-12-92 for $34.95. Should I get more? What saith the hive mind?

All Port is good. I've shot headstampeds from 76 to 87 and they have all been great. I would just wipe the ammo after delinking, links tends to be a little greasy.

At that price - I would rather buy the battlepacked SA at aimsurplus.com.

I bought a bunch of it already de-linked from Poly Gun Bag before they ran out. Shoots better in my M1A than anything else I've tried including Aussie. If you have a source and you want some you better get it while you can, getting scarce.

Because $35/200 rounds is 17.5 cents per round.

SA at AIM is $154/980 rounds, or 15.7 cents per round.  And I dont have to mess with de-linking anything.  Now, if the Port is linked and you have a machinegun that uses those links, by all means!  But I dont consider Port any better than SA in general.  Port is steel jacketed, while SA is 100 copper jacketed with a lead core.... which I generally prefer.

I haven't shot any delinked Port, but the Port in battlepacks is some of the best Mil Surp you can buy,if you can find it!....Aussie in cans is right up there with Port,...SA not bad but not as clean or accurate as Port or Aussie in my M1A's anyway.

Looks like Cabelas has some port, but it's .30 a round.

And after you add in shipping the difference is negligable. The wear that the jacket may produce is also negligable.

17.5 cents a round out the door is a good price for Portugese ammo.  I challenge you to find it anywhere else at that price in today's market. Links and cans also have some reuse value.

CAR_16, you did ok on your purchase.

Well, since you are gonna quibble over pennies.... he didnt pay 17.5 cents out the door.  $34.95 plus tax = ~19 cents per.

Still not a bad deal, I agree.

I bought 5 cans(1000) of this Port @  $35/per from J&G Sales to put away while I wait for my STG58 FAL. ..
Glad to know it's decent stuff - especially cause J&G is now (or were last time I saw) asking $50 per can and then sold out.  Those cans are neat for storage. Delinking is a PITA but worth it cause you get the free can.

Port ammo is good stuff. I've got about 2,600 rounds of the stuff and wish I had more of it.

Dunhams in Michigan has these 200 round cans for $39 for this week....

***EDIT***
Fired off about 100 rounds of Port .308 thru my DPMS with 100% functioning.  Felt like hotter ammo than the Amer Eagle 150 gr FMJBT I'd been shooting.  Also seemed alittle dirtier.  But functioned nice and clover leaf groups at 50 yards irons.   Slightly to the right impact compared to the Amer Eagle ammo.

Very pleased.
