As far as I know, PMC hasn't produced any mil-spec ammo in a while. I think they had the Lake City contract sometime in the 1980's, although I can't remember the exact year or years they produced it. I know there was plenty of PMC M193 floating around in the late 1980's. It was packaged in camo boxes. As far as quality, it was traditional M193.......good stuff.
Whether this PMC is some of the same stuff or not, I have no clue. I have seen some Korean 30-06 and .30 carbine Korean surplus on the market lately, it was loaded for them by PMC. The M193 may be some of the same stuff. |

PMC did NOT have a Lake City contract!!
PMC is a (South) Korean company, and makes ammo for the Korean military (the military headstamp is PS). In 1998, Klinton suspended PMC's import license because he believed that the machines they were loading the ammo on was given to the Koreans. In fact, it IS US equipment, but it was BOUGHT by the Koreans. Anyway, the import license was finally renewed in 1999, but all of that post-98 ammo is loaded quite a bit lighter than the pre-99 stuff, which was M193 spec. The new stuff is about 150 fps too slow. It DOES seem to be more accurate though. The other thing is that PMC is known for having a huge muzzle flash, as the powder contains no flash retardant chemicals. Finally, some PMC was actually subcontracted to a South African company, but apparently it was NOT made by the Denel Group, which makes all the other SA ammo. This stuff, marked "Made in RSA" instead of "Made in ROK", it even lighter loaded, with a number of people reporting short cycling in their guns. It's about 250-300 fps below M193 specs. -Troy |

Oh, and FWIW, the stuff on strippers is *probably* the older, late 90's stuff, which is better than the new-production lots, at least for defensive use.

BTW, PMC is now owned by Blount, therefore a German company. It is still mostly made in Korea, but some of ther newer ammo has MADE in U.S.A. on the back, so it looks like some production is now domestic.

I correct myself for being wrong about PMC producing ammo at Lake City in the 80's. I guess I made the mistake of assuming that because it was packed and sold like Federal's XM-193, that it too was American mil-spec ammo. Adding to that, I have heard several people say that PMC ran the Lake City plant for a few years in the 1980's! Where that came from I have no idea, but again, I apologize for giving out bad info. Does anyone know what the velocities are on the older (early 90's) and newer (post 99) PMC ammo? I have some of the older stuff as well as the new and would just kinda like to know how it performs. |

What I have in boxes and assume is the newer stuff is marked 223A (with R.O. Korea) and is packed in the red and white box. The other stuff I have is older PMC that is loose ammo which my uncle gave me, therefore I have no box or product # for these. But the cases are marked identically to the other ones and were probably bought in the early 1990's. Thanks. |

I didn't have time to look up the info for the old ammo, but here is the new info.
PMC223(A) Velocity 3195(muzzle) 100yds - 2882, 200yds -2525, 300yds - 2169, 400yds - 1843, 500yds - 1432 Energy in Ft pounds - Muzzle - 1246, 100yds - 1014, 200yds - 779, 300yds - 574, 400yds - 415, 500yds - 250 Path in inches muzzle -1.5, 100yds + 1.4, 200yds - 0.0, 300yds -6.8, 400yds - 21.1, 500yds -46. This is based on a 200 yard zero. This is also a boat tail bullet. Hope this helps. Remember, factory specs are almost always high. |
