PP,
Here's a little first hand information on the OTAL. (Also applies to the ITAL which is a similar form factor, just inline with the barrel rather than offset.) The OTAL has a 3.5mW, visible laser (red). The unit is very compact, smaller than a PAQ-4C, but is slightly heavier, 4.9 ounces with AA battery. Although subjective, here are my estimates of usable range in various light conditions based on some hands on testing.
Bright sunshine - 25 meters
Full overcast - 50 meters
Urban nighttime - 100 meters
Full darkness - 150 meters
Another LDI aimer, the MR-2 is a slightly larger unit, still only 6 ounces with CR123A battery, has slightly better performance.
Bright sunshine - 35 meters
Full overcast - 60 meters
Urban nighttime - 125 meters
Full darkness - 200 meters
I would not personally use one of these outdoors during daylight hours, but at night, or indoors in variable light conditions, where some sights are hard to find, these are excellent aimers, with nicely focused beams, and a good value. Both come with tape switches for momentary use.
We have not promoted them much yet as we always like to do plenty of personal testing before we endorse any products, but so far these seem to be quality devices. We do have a few of the various models in stock (they are all made to order, LDI doesn't keep units in inventory), and we will stock them as a regular item going forward.
