This is only semi related to AR10 types as the rifle I bought accepts AR10 style magazines (Galil ACE).

So that leaves me a few options:

1- Pmags; Cheap, but from my experience with the 5.56 version, the feedlips break. Not a problem with they are cheap, but long term not a great option.

2-KAC / LaRue magazines. Reported to be great, and they are made of metal so will last longer. All the other metal mags like DPMS, Brownells, etc, reports are not exactly glowing.

3-Lancers; More expensive, but with metal reenforcements.

4-Original AR-10 waffle magazines. I see them sold at Militaria shows in Europe for about $40 US..But how long do they last? From what little experience I have with them, they remind me of aluminum AR mags. If you are careful with them, they will last forever. Or I am better off with something else?

Any thoughts?

The original aluminum magazines were meant to be disposable, and to lie rotting on the jungle floor after use.  In Europe I have seen them sell for over 100 euros ($110).  The US prices would range from $50 on up.  The black ones are the cheapest and various types of grey mags will sell for more.  Before you buy a waffle mag you might want to see if it still fits the magwell.  These mags will lose their shape if left loaded for extended periods.

With a tiny bit of work the DPMS style mags will fit and old AR10.  No info on the pmags.  The old aluminum mags are sexy and belong with the old AR10s.  But why use these weak and expensive mags when cheaper and more duable options abound?

I have read that Brownells has revised their mags and they are now acceptable. They had a sale on them the other day. I'd buy a bunch (Hitlery) because if they don't work Brownells will take them back for a full refund.

Thanks for the input. At the last Ciney (Belguim) show, saw them in multiple places for 40ish Euros. There was a recent import of AR10s from somewhere onto the Euro civi market.

Get a mixture.  Magazines are the coolest accessory for any high capacity rifle. Variety is the spice of life.
