I would expect from 0.065 inches to 0.070 inches diameter. Charles the Gunsmith.

Charles-
Think about bore expansion ratio... Bigger bore, lower pressure, bigger gas port. I drill my 16" mid-length 6.8's at 0.086" I don't have notes for a 14.5" as I have never done one. I'll hazard a guess and say you will end up over 0.093" on that setup. Just start small and work up to proper function. Hopefully it will be short stroking at first. Open up the port until you can fire it while standing sideways to the target and holding it in front of you so it can free-recoil. If it cycles in free recoil, it will also cycle in cold weather against your shoulder. |

I was thinking about starting small. That is why I made the recommendation of 0.065 inches to 0.070 inches. I did neglect to say that it should be opened up in port size, in small increments, as needed, until it runs reliably. Semper Fi.... Charles.

reliability testing tip... I actually have a chest freezer that the guns go in for a few hours to test function, it is a cheap way to ensure that what leaves the door will work! |

Ahy, but alas, I don't have a test fire range at my shop and where I test fire has no power.
I would get some very funny looks if I showed up with rifles iced down in a cooler and proceeded to pull them out and test fire them. Maybe I should do that once, just to see the looks on the faces of the guys at the range

<--- It was cold here too, don't think it got much past the mid 70's. Wait, that's every day. I just moved my workshop to my new place and today was the first day with the lathe running. Trying to get caught up on little jobs so I can attack some blanks soon. Looks like tonight I will be hooking up the phase converter for the milling machine and surface grinder. Might have a fully functional shop by the end of the weekend
