So I'm thinking about a KISS  carbine, specifically with a permanent carry handle/A1 sight. I would like to be able to use a magnified optic with this setup and this seems like the way to go.

I'm concerned that the cheekweld/eye relief might suck... anyone have experience with them? I'm assuming a cheekpad is reccomended?

I know carry handle ACOGs are popular with the IDF, based on the media coverage anyway. I also know that a flat top would be "better" but this is a principled weapon.

Thanks for your input.

My wife likes her TA01 directly mounted on the carry handle. She doesn't think that it requires a cheek rest. BSW

AGGGHHAAAA    THE HORROR!!!

That beautiful retro rifle with rails on it.

+1 for the pic
+10 for the retro rifle
-15 for the rails on a retro rifle
-15 for the ACOG on a retro rifle

Restore that thing and buy here another rifle. You know you want to.

big +1   That thing is begging to be restored.

I actually have an opportunity to buy a TA01 NIB for $600.00. I'm not sure if I want it or not. I am really after a TA-31. I am going to watch this thread and see what is said. I may get it if enough positive info is seen.

The TA01 is a good little scope.  I used to have mine on my A2 until I got an M4.  At that point I put it in a TA50 mount, and it did well on the M4.  Now it's in the same mount on an ADM build.
If you use a cheekpiece, you will loose the use of the iron sights underneath.  However, you can adjust your cheekweld by thinking of it more along the lines of a jaw-weld.  Works just as well, it's just a little different.
IIRC somebody makes a mount for a JP minisight that mounts like the BUIS on the NSN model.

There's nothing to restore. It's a SP1 upper on a Oly lower. The rail is there to float the barrel and provide a place for a bipod, when she wants to have it mounted.

As far as the TA01 goes, it's nice. Optic quality is on par with my ELCAN, the heavy lines allow pretty fast short range snap shooting. Longish distance is covered also. If I want to replace my ELCAN, I'll probably get a ACOG. BSW

I have run ACOGs on carry handles and think the cheekweld issue is way over exagerated.  These optics were designed for the carry handle.  I like them there; instant irons.
