My dad has the 3-9X40, went with it because of the price difference.  Great glass, probably better than leupold vx-ii (which I consider good glass).  The only thing I dont like are the knobs.  They are small, and not numbered but they do have tick marks and can be re-referenced, which is cool.  In case I called it the wrong thing by re-reference I mean once you zero you can set that to be dead center so that its easier to go back to at the end of a windy day or something.  Cool feature but if you run from 100-300 yds back and forth all the time and wanna shoot golf balls and clay pigeons at those ranges, your fingers will get sore using the tiny stiff turrets.  nikon buckmaster has better turrets for that but slightly inferior glass.

I dont own that one, but I do have the 3-9x40 conquest.  I have owned many differentscopes  at all price ranges.  I bought mine from SWFA about 2 years ago for $400+ s&h.  I could not have bought a better scope for the money.  Its mounted on a .243 Win that does double duty as a deer, and groundhog gun.  The adjustments are repeatable.  Its only the 2nd scope ive owned the passed the box test. I thought I would miss the AO but I dont.  Thats to me is just one more thing to mess with.  The clarity and resolution are first rate.  The part that first grabed me was the light transmission.  I looked through my buddys on a clear night with a half moon, and could count the points on a buck that was 130 yds away.  Thats what sold me.  I love the #4 reticle.  Its super fast on target.  Ive looked at a few that had the rapid z reticle, and Ill stick with the #4.

Over on 6mmbr they rated the conquest quite high.  It's one of few scopes that pass the box test with flying colors, no lash in the knobs.  They rated them better than the leopold knobs as far as lash and repeatability go.   6mmbr pointed out the only downside is that it's a one inch scope tube limiting the amount of adjustment if you're looking to go to 1000yds you may need an inclined scope base.

I bought the exact scope your asking about after being disappointed with a VXII clarity wise on my hunting rifle.  I have not had a chance to mount the scope yet but my initial impressions are favorable.  It's a very clear scope.
