Just recently purchased my first AR. I purchased the Smith and Wesson M&P 15X and I am looking to get a one point sling. I have a question that I'm sure ya'll can answer quite easily. I am looking at the Magpul Mulit Mission Sling System or some other type of sling system. My question is, what makes one sling better than an another and if I were to purchase one, do I usually always have to purchase the one point sling mount because they are not included and how do they differ from each other?

Thank you in advance and I apologize if these questions have been asked many times before.

Quality of the material and stitching is the main difference. I would imagine the two main types of single point slings are the bungee type and non-bungee. Most people here would say that you cannot go wrong with the Blackhawk bungee style sling. I've seen another very similar sling at the shows for about half the price. I would say having a quick release buckle just above the rifle hook is most important, it makes it so much easier to put the rifle on and take it off. I think I bought my sling directly from the rock river website (non bungee style). I would also say that most people on here would say make sure that whatever you buy is not an airsoft rated product.

As far as the sling mounts, just pick the one you want, there are a couple of different designs, left handed, right handed or ambi. Think mine was about $10 (pro-mag).

Think twice (as in 2-pt) before getting a 1-pt.

They look cool but are not very practical in application.

ProInfidel,

I've tried all 3 types of slings.  Single, 2 point and 3 point.  I prefer a two point.

Single point in uncomfortable, 3 point are cumbersome in that there is too much material there to deal with.

I have a Vickers Cobra 2 point and am very satisfied.

I got the magpul ms2 and asap mount so i can use it as a single or 2-point sling depending on which one felt more comfortable or useful. thats the selling point for me is that you can use it either way

I also back up the VCAS.

But if you GOTTA have some kinda convertible sling, don't get the magpul one unless you're built like Black Dynamite.

My preference is a Vickers 2 point, but that said several of the units I work with are issued one point slings because they are primarilly vehi9cle bound and do lots of building searches and the one point is quite effective in very quick shoulder changes.  I did live fire drills for two hours yesterday and another 2 today.
Yet on my own M-4 I'll stay with the 2 point Vickers.

I'm a Magpul homer, but the reviews I've read here are enough to keep me from buying one of their slings. I've also watched the urbanertslings.com videos from their site, but those just look too busy for me, too much stuff on the sling itself.

If your looking for the convertible style, savvysniper.com, spectergear.com (2-point area) and Blue Force Gear are the way to go (the BFG VCAS works about like a convertible)
