I am considering my first M16 build. [XXX I really mean AR15] I have an HBAR Bushmaster that I like.  I would like another lower to use with something else like an M4 type upper.  I am always on a tight budget and I may just try to finish a lower before I consider doing the upper.

I have several choices for lowers and want advice.

RRA - Oly - Eagle Arms - anything else?

What lower would you suggest for my first AR build?

Unless you're a class III manufacture I'd rather see you build an M-15 or AR-15 vice an M-16.

None of those companies is going to sell a civilian an M-16 lower.

An M-16 is an assualt weapon.
An AR15 is just an semi auto rifle.

If you on a budget buy a stripped lower then a full parts set. Thats the least expensive way to buy/build your own.

OLY rec...good but stay away from the cast models
Armalite...very good and also top dollar.
Eagle Arms...good but not up to Armalite specs.
RRA...very good and priced right
Stinger...I haven't seen one yet.
ASA...stay away, stay far away.
Bushmaster...very good but also near top dollar.

I can't tell you what to buy just stick around here and read and you will find out what to get.
Personally I don't have any AR15's....at least not on the yellow paper kind.

CORRECTION.

I meant an AR-15.  I have no plans for a stay at Club Fed.

Your assessment of receivers is helpful.

Thanks.

I noticed that DPMS has not yet come up.  Can anyone rate them?

So far, since I am on a budget, the RRA might be the value.  I like Bushmaster, but their lower prices are supposed to be high.Right?

I'm very satisfied with my Stinger/Mega lower.

First, go check out this information posted on the board:h ttp://www.ar15.com/forums/announcement.html?b=3&f=118&id=172

Excellent details there. That being said, Armalite, Oly & RRA forged lowers are all excellent pieces and all have lifetime warranties.

I am a big Armalite fan, although I did recently decide (finally!) on an Oly SUM 16" A3 upper and am very happy with it.
