Midlength. It's designed around 16" barrels, optimizing the gas system and foearm "real estate." I don't like the look of a long barrel poking way out there. Take advantage of the longer sight radius, being able to attach bayonets, less harsh gas system, etc... Plus with an A1 stock, it looks like a "mini-A2." |

Mid length A4. I have one and a RRA M4gery Entry tactical. It just feels and looks better than a 16" M-4 barrel. I think the mid gas system makes it more "mild mannered" than the car length. I had an A2 stock( too short) on it but sold that and am waiting on a 6 pos with SOG butt pad( it's LOP is longer and fits me better)

I should clarify that if I get an m4gery, I will probably have a 14.5" barrel with perm. FH installed. I agree that a 16" barrel sticking out of those fat m4 handguards looks, well, weird.

With the 14.5 you're stuck with the phantom. With a midlength if you decide on a suppressor later or some new type FH comes available you can always swap it. |

I got a 14.5 mid length from cmmg. Its by far my favorite gun.

How do Middys with 14.5" barrels work? Does the shorter barrel screw up the gas system, or do they operate about as well as the standard 16" versions?

I'll present the minority report... M4. Though I can see the allure of a midlength system, if you don't have an M4 get one! I find it to be more versitle and handles better. Plus, it is way more tacticool

+1 for middy. It's just more practical and pleasant to shoot, and I don't think I'll ever buy another AR with the carbine gas system unless I'm doing an SBR or some sort of retro-clone.

Yup, Colt M4A1 SOCOM barrel from Skich on the EE with a perm attached Phantom 5C2. The middy is a Denny's Operator with 13.2" LaRue tube. Also has a Phantom 5C2 on the front. |

If you go to adcofirearms.com, steve has a section under the RRA stuff that says, build an M4 upper. I had him put together an M4gery with a 14.7 with permanent A2 flashider for my dad, and my dad just loves it!!!!!!!!!!! It's as close to an M4 that you're going to get and it's pretty accurate too. It's his favorite gun right now.

I am a big fan of the M4. However, I am a bigger fan of the C.R.O.S.S. M4 from POF. It kicks ass. Only HK and Colt offer similar to my knowledge. Good luck with those two copy cats.

So I'm taking this to mean that a 14.5" will not take away from the benefits of a middy? I thought I heard somewhere that since midlengths are designed around 16" barrels, a shorter one messes with the gas system. |
