Yeah, noticed the Vortex logo after I pulled the trigger on the post. I may have an untrained eye to them...but without close examination of the photo, that scope looks pretty identical to the SMRS 1-8.

Mod-H upper in hand!

As soon as the weather breaks I'll give her the khaki base coat and then I'll try my hand at a pinestraw pattern with OD green.
Gratuitous pics of my mock up thus far. (Disclaimer- I'll be running an incorrect scope for the time being)

And before anyone asks, yes, my AEM5 is in jail.

Fuck me! 2020 sucks a big one. My mother died of cancer earlier this year. "Pandemic, pandemic, pandemic"..all over the news media ....

Assembling my upper with this barrel https://bisonarmory.com/16-recon-6-8-spc-stainless/ and discovered it isn't contoured back 2.4" as shown here http://aesuppressors.com/images/sprdrawing.jpg  only around 1.25". So I can't mount the collar. Bison shows pics of two contours on their site, one at the bottom of the page appears to be cut back far enough, didn't notice until today.

I paid extra for the FDE finish also.

If I didn't work at a "secure" government facility I would take it to work and put it in a four jaw chuck and just turn it back myself. I have no access to machining equipment outside of work.

To add insult to injury I just found out the card I purchased for my new camera has too many GB, so I can't post any pics yet. It didn't say a damn thing in the manual that shipped in the box but the one online says 32GB max. Fuck Kodak too.

Sorry for the rant. I have been purchasing parts and planning this build for a long while as the fun budget allows. Saw this on Bison's site... " Compatible with Ops Inc. / Allen Engineering brake & collar silencer systems" ...you know what they say about ASSuming.

ETA: I am not putting down Bison Armory. The barrel looks great, very clean machining, beautiful rifling, I hope it shoots as good as it looks. Just a warning to folks to check your stuff before you torque down the barrel and install the gas block.

The description says it’s compatible, I’d go on that rather than the pic. Also, if it’s not compatible and is like the pic, most barrels can’t just be turned back and made compatible with the AEM5 collar. The collar is designed to work off the dimensions of the gas block journal, barrels that are compatible with AEM5 collars basically have a really long gas block journal. The portion of the barrel between a normal, short gas block journal and muzzle is too narrow for the collar, so even if it has that step at the muzzle, it won’t work. The collar will just fall down the thick part. Adco schooled me on that when I asked them to turn down a 16” Rainier Ultramatch barrel for the AEM5 collar

It can be turned back, I measured everything after the fact, all diameters are good just the step is too close to the muzzle. I wonder if Bison cut it for the M4 AEM5 collar http://aesuppressors.com/mounts/ ? I have the long MK12 SPR collar.

I wanted this barrel for a few reasons, I have wanted a larger caliber AR for a while and was going to do an M4 build in this caliber but when I found out Sgt Holland had a big hand in the development of the 6.8 SPC cartridge and this Mk12 variant it seemed like a no brainer.

ETA: From muzzle to step 1.270" . Step diameter 0.725". Behind the step diameter 0.745" (0.0035" below minimum spec on A.E. drawing) Gas block journal 0.7495". Inside diameter of collar where it engages the step is 0.729" measured with a dial caliper.  http://aesuppressors.com/images/sprdrawing.jpg

That’s precisely what he did. Way back Ben used to use a profile that was surprisingly close to the real Hollands. He changed the profiles to the one you have there and didn’t update the pics before I purchased a 5.56 barrel. When I messaged to go “wth?” He stated I could use the M4 AEM5 collar. Not exactly good for a clone, and now discontinued unless purchased direct from Ron with measurements.

At any rate the exchange we had and a community push after led to the AEM5 profiled 5.56 barrels returning, but unfortunately with this new profile versus the more correct early one.

Thinking of doing a Mod H URX4 inspired in 6.5 grendel, with an AE30 of course.

I see that BA does and SPR profiled 16" barrel.

Has anyone done this (6.5G) and is the BA barrel cut correctly (for the collar) and is it any good (accuracy wise)?

The announcement of Ron retiring is what is making me accelerate this project.

All the 5/8×24 .30cal muzzle brakes are OOS so I would have to order direct from him.

Somewhere floating around is a pic of my 6.5 Grendel URX4 with a standard length (but larger caliber) AEM5.

The BA 6.5G 16" SPR barrel states in description it has the right step, but every pic I've seen has just been a .700x.700 step. I'm leery of them.

Yeah, looking at the pics it doesn't look like the step is far enough back. I could always get it machined back if needed.

Did you have Ron make you the larger cal AEM5? Does it use a 1/2x28 muzzle break but bored out to the correct cal?

Did you do a write up on your rifle? Extremely interested, if you did.

ETA Off to search!

Yes, I did. He made me a 6.8 Caliber short stack AEM5.  I've been sticking with 5/8x24 threaded barrels.

The rifle was more of a mockup than anything serious. Terrible pictures.  I just threw it together quickly to get a sense of what a URX4 Holland would look and feel like. Pretty sure it was the first clone, though.

NICE!!!!

Last question then I'll leave you alone (for now ), which barrel did you use?

ETA Pretty sure I'm semi retarded and misread how the AE30 attaches. No muzzle brake needed, only a 20* step 2.5" back from the muzzle or a collar same distance back.

It's direct thread to 5/8x24 barrels, yes?

You're a bad person and an enabler, thanks.

Talking to Ron right, now via email, about a can in 6.8 but closer to AEM5 length.

ETA Muzzle brake is ordered. Too late to turn back now.

Probably going to have CLE turn a Douglas barrel 16", 6.5G, and in MK12 profile.
