So I’ve ordered an nx8 to replace my razor on a stealth 2.0 10.5 upper. I’m about to order a criterion core barrel to replace the larue barrel. Should I go 11.5 or 12.5? Keep in mind I’m doing this to lighten the gun since the larue is 29 ounces.

Considering this is for a recce, 12.5," too easy.

The difference in weight is 1.6oz.

Is there an rmr mounting top ring for the badger unimount?

I like the 1.3 height for prone, and mounting the rmr above that should put me right about unity fast height.

The Condition One or g mounts don't go that low.

The Condition One top ring looks like two of the 3 holes may line up with the unimount hole spacing. Does anyone know for sure?

Or is my only option to add a reptilia ring mount in front of the unimount ring?

Yeah I think the weight isn’t an issue there. I’m not sure if the extra inch is really worth it that’s my quandary. However that’s only half an inch more than the Larue.

Dammit. You guys have to stop posting these pics. So are the eye box issues even an issue at all? Now I’m contemplating getting rid of my ELCAN for an NX8

It's tighter than the Elcan but it's not a tight eye box. The Elcan is just massive and very forgiving.

Having owned both. Nx8 hands down. Best SBR optic out there.

Most of the tight eye box BS was from people cranking it up to 8x unmounted and pointing it at something 5 feet away.

Bingo.  Gunstore handling, mounting it like an idiot, not adjusting diopter, etc. issues

Ok, whos gonna do it first? 11.5" 6mmARC with a Vortex Razor Gen iii. Seems to me, other than the ammo/reloading components availability, the absolute perfect mini RECCE.

Looks like a nice round but I have a 12” 6.5 Grendel upper that makes shooting IDPA steel at 650 too easy.  Plus I have plenty of wolf ammo for it that can take the longer ranges pretty well.

It’s an impressive round but I bet it will rip through barrels. I have a hard enough time stomaching my 6.5C guns but when I see 6mm bolt guns burning out in 1000 or less rounds, that hurts.
Link Posted: 1/7/2021 10:32:14 PM EST
True on barrel life. However, its a consumable. If someone decides to do one, and im kinda curious, grab two barrels (middle of the road, maybe Wilson Combat if they make em or something) and swap it yourself as opposed to a 6mm Creed precision bolt gun for PRS where it needs to be put together a little more precise than just a wrench. Besides, in 2021, who's gonna have the ammo/components to burn one out anyway? 🤷‍♂️

Barrels are consumable but when you're talking a 10 fold reduced barrel life my eyebrows raise. Bolt life I bet will be less and the mag situation doesn't seem great. Ammo is already hard enough to find let alone a less popular round. I'm all for a better mousetrap but it often boils down to logistics as we'd all be shooting wildcats if that wasn't the case.

@whiplash10

Got an NX8 1-8 Mil/LEO with capped turrets on the way.

Took advantage of that military status through Nightforce.  Well worth it

Slapping it on a 9" 300 blackout SBR.  Hope that qualifies as a 'Mini Recce' until I build a 11.5 or 12.5 inch 5.56 upper.

Maybe I'll create a Micro Recce thread for the 9"

My bank account thanks you whiplash.

Link Posted: 1/8/2021 12:03:24 PM EST
Yep. If only the 6mmARC had come out in 2016/2017. Components would have been plenty, barrels etc.

Oh well, I'll probably stick to bolt guns for long range and use my ARs for mid.

Cool concept though. Time will tell if it will go the route of the 224 Valkyrie.

Just wanted to know how you liked it? What kind of accuracy are you getting out of it and how it’s done at loner ranges? Also if you have something had other barrels in similar length and how it stacks up.

I think this qualifies as a mini Reece. 13.7 Noveske Infidel, Steiner P4Xi, Noveske marked AD mount, Arisaka light, light mount, indexer, and a modlite lite switch.

I really like it.  I’m running it with a Sprinco Green and A5H1. Only other 12.5 I have built right now is a DD. So I’ll compare it to that. Ive only run it with Wolf Gold, Wolf steel, 193 and Magtech 77 OTM.

Cycling - the Hodge is gassed great. Cycles All of the above and locks back every time both suppressed and unsuppressed. Soft recoil and noticeably less gas. DD barrel is way over gassed.

Profile - Hodge profile is great.  Really Helps balance with a suppressor. DD is classic gov profile and front heavy with a suppressor.

Accuracy (I’m no marksman and don’t get all sciency) - I’ve only shot them with the above loads, but I have to give the win to DD here. They just make accurate barrels. The Hodge is plenty accurate, just not as good as the DD.

Overall, I much prefer the Hodge and feel it was definitely worth it.  It’s just a better shooting gun overall.  I really want a Criterion Core to compare it to.

You’ve shot steel through the small port Hodge with an A5H1 and green spring and didn’t have any issues? Was that unsuppressed?

My only 12.5 is built around a the .068 Hodge and I debate selling it often even though I do like it.
