I read on his website that the 10.5" should be out in 1/06

Any info on them though?  Chrome lined, stainless, what exactly is a light contour?

They are stainless and heavy, for full auto fire.  A lighter contour would be nice for handling reasons, if you arent going to be doing mag dumps through it.  I'd imagine anyway.

I didn't see anything on his website about lighter profiles.  Is this the new site:  www.noveskerifleworks.com/?  I thought it was JNRifleworks.com or something like that.

I did see mention of the 12.5" "Crusader" upper which looks very nice.

Direct quote from John's web site:

"The 14.5" Afghan barrel will be available in a light contour in Jan, 2006."

:)

Sweet, found it.  Also,
"The 10.5" CQB barrel will be available in a light contour in Jan, 2006.
ETA: and,
"The 16.1" Recon barrel will be available in a light contour in Jan, 2006."

Well it's already 1/06.

I'm getting very close to finally getting a barrel for my AR, I'd like to see a difference between the normal and light contour barrels.

His uppers and barrels are worth every penny.  I'm going to hold on for a while on the light contour Afghan.  I am going to wait and see if the rumors of chrome lining come true.

Anyone have a picture or drawing of the new light profile barrels?

Chrome on a stainless steel barrel?

is that redundant?

Mid March for any profile light, med, and standard. I put my order in the beginning of Dec. John and the nice lady (name ?) told me after they train with their new machine they should be cranking them out.

Any idea on the weight differences in the configurations?  I've got an original 16" barrel and while uber accurate, its heavy and negates the light weight value of the carbine.

Hard chrome has twice the corrosion reisitance of stainless.  Also you cant hard chrome stainless steel.

John said only a handful of ounces. It is still heavier than the gov.
