I was at the range yesterday and tryed to zero my 16,5" Sabre Defense with iron sights.

We shot at 25 yards sitting on a bench, rifle on a bean-bag.

I shot S+B M193, American Eagle 55gr. FMJ and Wolf 62gr FMJ.

The S+B hit dead on...but the American Eagle was 2 - 2,5" off to the right.

Also the Wolf was off to the right. But just about an inch or one and a half.

I thought that this large difference of accuracy would be just notet at 100y but not at 25.

Just woundering since I dont have that with my handguns. Some ammo is more accurate then the other but such a clear and large shift to the right makes me wounder.

So you AR-Pros... is that normal ???
Don´t tell me just change ammo...I just bought 2000 American eagle

Thanks for your help.

I think the rifle needs to be re zero'd for different types and brands of ammo. I'm not an ammo guru, but i think thats right.

For one thing you are shooting different weight bullets. That in itself will cause a shift in impact. Usually it will be an elevation shift but right or left isn't uncommon. At 25 yds what you are experiencing is a bit drastic. Try it at 100 and see what it is like. If you can't hit the paper with loads other than what it is sighted for then you definitely have a problem.

That does seem like a lot, but who knows.  My experience- with a 14.5" Colt barrel, at 50yds the 55grn ammo was dead on, even using different brands, FMJ and SP.  The 62grn M855 ammo shot about 1.5" low and to the right of where the 55grn impacted.

Some guns will have massive POI shifts with different ammo, its normal.  Pick the one you want to use the most and zero for that.

Most of the time, the POI shift will be minor.

There are vast differences is ammo.  Some guns will eat anything with very little difference in accuracy (at short range).  Some guns won't.  Again, you are shooting different weights and this will at least cause a difference in elevation.  Find what you intend to shoot on a regular basis and zero for that.  Then stick with it.  Experiment.  That's half the fun.
