Is it a Colt?  Some of the early SP1's were electroless nickel.  Not many made so might be a very collectable Enjoy and Happy Birthday, you have a fine wife that would buy you something like that.

If you are really lucky, your wife bought you one of the 1000 Colt SP1's finished in what Colt called Coltguard, an electroless nickel finish.  They are awesome guns.

I own number 604 of the thousand made, and bought it new in 1984.

Sounds like 1980s vintage SP1 finished in Coltguard to me.

Thanks...for the photobucket info...here is the first pic of my new AR15 Nickel Plated...It is an Olympic. Don't really know where that falls into the AR category, but since its my first, I guess it'll be ok...Plus I'm very thankful my wife got it for me...Inputs are welcome.

Working on better pics, I will have posted as soon as I can.  thought that this would have been a good pic, but I'll get more at different angles for a better view with less glare...Thanks

That's very shiny. Pretty cool though; hope it holds up well. I looked on Olympic's website and didn't see one that was nickel-plated, but it might be an older model, I'm not sure.

Olympic isn't one of the top brands, to be honest, but it should work fine. Congratulations...and you owe your wife something nice.

A year or 2 ago a guy here on EE  had an AR for sale that had the original aluminum lower completely polished along with an aluminum floating handguard also highly polished. It had a stainless barrel with black furniture. It actually looked VERY cool and I really wished I had the $$$ to buy it. I really like the Coltguard SP1's too, but I'd like to see better pics of your nickel Oly.

Will it even be possible to get a picture with less glare?

Naaah.... it needs a chromed buttstock to balance it out....

I saw some pictures from a guy that CNC machined his own upper and lower, and then highly polished the bare aluminum on them both.  Not something I personally need, but boy, did it look cool....

Olympic had one on display during the last open house.  I think I have a picture somewhere that I'll try to dig up.

That does look much better! If you want to take some real good pictures of a shiny gun, if it's not too cold outside, take it out in natural sunlight. I ususally use a tripod when I take gun shots but it's almost impossible to take pics of a shiny guns with a flash. I use a cheap digital camera with a cheap tripod and here are a couple of my pics.

Now there you go. Nice bright firearm with wood furniture.

If all AR's were made this way they never would of made it to the evil rifle list.
Walmart would be selling them by the dozens.

BUT I have to say....it just doesn't look right takes all the evil out of it.

Nice...I like the buttstock on this one. Makes it look muck more better, plus it has that tactical look...Thanks
