I'm new to ARs and am thinking of getting a light for my new M4A3 BM. There seems to be so many options...I was hoping you guys could narrow down the choices for me.

What are my options as far as mounting a light without putting on a vertical foregrip? How does adding a vertical foregrip affect function?

As far as other accessories...right now I'm thinking of adding only an Aimpoint or some other kind of red dot. It's all up in the air right now.

I'm primarily looking for something that works out to 200 yards.

I would appreciate particular brand/model suggestions.

P.S. - Actually, I wouldn't mind other recommendations as far as other configurations besides the light/red dot, etc. for distances < 200 yards.

Lots of options for ya! You can get a rail that screws into your standard HG's and allows you to mount a light. You can also buy a two piece rail system (RAS type) that allows you to use a VG and a light. I would try a VG before you buy one. Some people like them and other do not. The Aimpoint is an excellent choice and will do what you want it to (shoot out to 200yds). You kind of need to figure out what your budget is and then go from there. If you have say $400 to drop on a rail system and a light then there are a lot of options. If you only have $50 then you have very few options....

Thanks for the info. I'm pretty sure I do not want a VG...thus I guess that leaves a rail that can screw into my HGs.

I guess my budget is pretty flexible. I want a good, tested setup and would be willing to spend money for the higher quality stuff. Better to just buy it once and get it done and over with. From what I've read here, Surefire seems like a good bet. Will probably go with the Aimpoint M2.

Any other options you can think of for < 200 yards or specific model suggestions?

For achieving distances out to 200yds. you'll need to be looking at the SureFire M500B which is a complete forearm assembly that replaces your existing handguards. Or, you'll need to consider the rail mounted Surefire M981 12v MU system.

Just to clarify, are you looking for an optic that will work out to 200yds or a flashlight???

Sorry for the confusion, I appreciate everyone's help. I'm looking for an optic that does well out to 200 yards. I was just wondering if there were any common/popular red dot/light combinations.

Optics and lights can be any kind you want. SureFire makes the best weaponlight's in my opinion. As far as optics go, Aimpoint and EOTech are really the two best optics available for what you want to do. With that being said, you then need to decide if you want NV capability or not. For a weaponlight, define what you want to use it for (CQB, VARMINT hunting at night, etc)...
