Hey there,

Can someone talk me through installing a M93B Magpul stock.  It is going on in place of an A2 stock on a Bushmaster lower.  What tools will I need?  Lower need to be held in a vice, etc?  I know I need to get a CAR spring and buffer, and that the M93B comes with it's own buffer tube.  I am thinking this is a simple task, but don't want to make it harder than it has to be.

Thanks for your help,

Steve

It is very simple... after you do it once or twice.

You won't need a vice, but you will need safety glasses and sand paper. You'll need an two allen wrenches to finish up, but I don't remember if they are included or not. Other than that, some punches could be handy, but aren't necessary.

Basically what it boils down to is this. You select a shim (included) and put it on the tube. You screw in the stock and see if it times properly with the shim. If it doesn't try all the other shims and combos. If no combos work, try the closest set and sand down one of the shims until it fits. You should have to turn the stock against some resistance at the end, but not so much it causes the shim to pop out the side.

Ok, once you have your shims sized properly, comes the hard part. Put in your takedown pin, detente and spring. Get your buffer retention spring and detente ready. Screw in the stock with shims until you are about 90° from upright. Compress your takedown spring and put it under the shims. Hold the shims in place. Put the buffer detente in and depress it. Turn the stock the last 90°. After this, you just need to put in the anti-rotation pieces, your sling loop and bolt them all down.

The tricky bit is that the shims are flexy, so the takedown pin spring will come flying right out the back. I shot my buffer detente across the room several times getting everything lined up right. This is what the safety glasses or for, you don't want to put out your eye with a pointy bit of supersonic metal. It seems like you need 3 hands, but even using a vice won't alliviate that.

OK yes total newbie question here, but what do you mean by "times" or the other term I've heard about installing this stock is "timing with the buffer"

I do appreciate your help, just this is new territory for me. Scope and such I can mount, never done much more beyond that.

I plan to order the stock this coming week.  I want to have everything I might need on hand when it gets here.  What tools will I need to remove/install the buffer tube?  Anyone got a link to a .pdf of the M93B install instructions?

Can someone please explaing "timing" of the shims.  Dang I bet you all think I am some kind of moron for these newb questions.

Thanks for any help,

Steve

Oh for pete's Sake.... you want to use the shims to make sure your buffer tube is right side up and straight when you get it screwed in place... "Timed" also you need to make certain that the Buffer detent is retained when you have the tube tightened down, did your stock not include instructions? you can go to the Magpul webpage and download the INSTRUCTION SHEET as well. when you figure out the shims there is a possibility that the tube will be improperly timed as some lowers have the threading off by a skosh for those Magpul will trade out the tube as I recall. but I think most work just fine.  when you install the claws and and the sling loop you will need to pivot one claw into place with a lever such as the tool used to tighten it. then the cross bolt needs to be tightened until all is snug the sling loop or filler inserted and the final bolt installed.

It wasn't too hard.  I figured it out without instructions, but I'm mechanically minded, so the challenge was fun for me.

AFSOC gives you the link to the instruction sheet and that should help alot.

Good luck.
