Great website!  I'm new here so please go easy on me.  My co-worker owns a Bushy and I'm considering a purchase so I can go "plinking" with him.  Now, I'm in the research stage, pre or post ban, Bushy or Oly etc.  I have one stupid question. I did a search and nothing came up, what's a sear block?  Thanks' in advance. hacko.gif

a sear block is a steel piece that colt installed on some of their "blue label" rifles to prevent a full auto trigger group from being installed.  if you want a good rifle i would say get a post ban Bushy or Armalite.  then when this AWB blows over you can convert it over. for about $150.00

oh, and welcome!!!

[blue][b] Greetings and Welcome to the madness. Let me warn you ,AR's can be addicting. One is never enough. Just to confuse you even more Rock River Arms ( [url=www.rockriverarms.com]RRA [/url] ) is another I would consider on your search for an AR .

Good Luck

Troy,
Thanks for the detailed explaination.  AR addiction has already set in and I don't even own one.  Damn, I wish Santa brought me an AR-15 [sniper] instead of my Kahr MK9[pistol].  Oh well, soon I'll own one.

Might I suggest that you save your money & go the post-ban route? After all, when the AW ban sunsets, there'll be no pre- or post-ban & you'll lose several hundred dollars of value, IMO.

As for brands, you'll come out way ahead if you stick with the 3 Big Boy brands: Armalite, Colt & Bushmaster.

All 3 brands have their dedicated owners & all have their less-than-perfect products from time to time. I own a Colt AR-15 & Armalite AR-10B, love them both.

Hope this helps.

Thanks, I'm looking into Bushy or nicer yet, Pete at Legal-Transfers just might be building me a RRA US Property lower set-up when they come in the end of Jan.  Thanks again guys, your suggestions are always welcome. [whacko]

One thing you guys are missing.  He lives in NY with me.  That means when the AWB sunsets, he's still SOL as we have our own in place.

Welcome to the site.  I was going to add RRA, but I see its already been mentioned.  I have a Bushmaster and a RRA and both are great.  You can't go wrong with Pete-in-NH.  He will do you right.

Benny please explain, yes I'm a NYer does that mean I can't own a pre-ban? [>:/]

No, it means that you have a state ban that is effectively duplicating the federal ban.  Therefore, when/if the federal ban expires, NY will still have one in effect.

You can still own a pre-ban, but you cannot buy a post-ban, wait until the AWB expires, then convert it to pre-ban configuration.

HTH!

Nope, won't work.  Well legally anyway.  At that point you will have a post ban rifle you configured to a pre ban in NY.  You can't have any of the 'evil' features on any post ban rifle in NY, even after the federal AWB sunsets.  Just like people in CA can't have a detatchable mag & a pistol grip.  After the AWB sunsets, they're still screwed because it's a state law.

What you do with your rifles after you get them is your own business.  If someone starts poking around you'll have a rifle that's illegal in NY as it is post ban with pre ban features.

Unless the NY ban sunsets too, but I haven't read that one.  It's permanent for all I understand.
