Filtering throught the options, what I really want is a good tactical AR and may add scope to it. Have considered the Varmit models; however. I'd like something that is a solid tactical driver, and can have fun at the range shooting 200-400 yard targets. Might like the 308 version. What say the experts - please assist a newbe in purchasing my first real AR?

Try searching or just looking at the thread titles for the last week or two, and you will find everything you need

price range...?

Keep reading, but you can't go wrong with Colt, LMT, Bushmaster, RRA

Approximately $1000 range (give or take a few bucks)... I'd like something that would allow for quick iron sights (tactical), and have the ability (and accuracy) of scope shooting at the range 200-400 yards. Been looking on the Bushmaster and Rock River websites. The 308 really interest me for some reason (might be the long-range shots), and Rock River seems to have several options for the 308.

feedback will be much appreciated...

Can't go wrong with any of the big name companies.....but I'm partial to RRA. Best value for the money, IMHO.

ABCDR, LMT, CMT are the tops imo (for parts builds, and complete ARs)

a 16/18in flatop would fit you bill pretty good imo

.308s are going to run more than $1000 (more like $1200 min)--the only one i would look at ar Armalite's AR10, or maybe DPMS's line

CHeck out Double Star www.star15.com. They are the full build version of the parts JT Enterprises have been making for everyone else for years. Excellent rifles for less than the big guys. They use forged receivers and everything is built to mil specs.
