I have AKs and am looking for my first AR. Use will likely be range time (200 plus rounds per visit) and going out into the desert to plink and make noise.

I'd like good accuracy and a flat top or some similar arrangement for a scope and a medium heavy to heavy barrel. Don't know about regular v. stainless steel for the barrel. I don't really care about having pre-ban features.

I have been looking at the following guns:

Bushmaster:

-- A3
-- V-Match
-- Varminter

Rock River:

-- A4 with 20" barrel

What do you think about these choices? Are there others I should consider?

Thanks

Those sound good for what you are doing. I reccomend a chrome barrel. All bushmasters except the varminter and stainless models have a chrome lined barrel.

All of those mentioned would be excellent, actually it's easier to tell you which ones to stay away from.
Vulcan/Hesse and American Spirit (ASA) are two I would walk away from, other than that you can pretty much buy with confidence.

Armalite/Eagle
Bushmaster
Calvary Arms
Colt
DPMS
Fulton
Rock River

Are all good to go, some are just more expensive, check the Industry section for links.
