im wanting to sbr a rifle and came across a buddy selling his bushmaster a3 patrolman. Never been chambered and he will take 500. He bought it in January. Never been a huge fan of bushmasters but I don't think I can pass it up. Are the new bushmaster pretty good quality wise?

Check the staking on the bolt carrier key screws.

Other than that, stock up on ammo.

Your within $50 + or - of what it would take in parts to build something similar. So unless you already have the tools and want to build your own, Why not jump on it??

Screw the staking of the BCG and buy the damned rifle. For a few bucks more, get an M16 BCG to beat to death and you'll have the unmolested/unfired original for a spare or a feather in your cap in an EE listing down the road.

I'd do it. I'm not a huge fan of Bushmaster but that is a good price for an assembled rifle.

I didn't tell him NOT to purchase the Bushmaster, when he gets it he needs to check the staking...

Reading is fundamental

My Bushmaster m4 E2s is outstanding quality .. Bushmaster is making great ARs .... And I've never seen an improperly or not staked gas key on one.
A $500 ready to go new Bushmaster ... I'd love to get that deal.

This is a "cut and paste" from an earlier comment I made on Bushmasters...

Check the carrier key staking.

I performed the P.M. on a Departments Bushmasters, two of the six had loose carrier keys.

Sweet Jebus, those rollmarks get fuglier with every transition made! Makes me appreciate the crap out of my vintage Bushys and their "don't tread on me" style logo.

Of course, all this does nothing to change this thread. You done good, now shoot the piss out of it!

For real. Not a fan of the roll mark. I thought it would have the old style.

No.

But for $500, might make a good beater.
