What do you folks know about the new 6.8X43 cartridge for the M-16. I have heard that Remmington will be manufacturing 10 Million of the 6.8X43 rounds in the next year. 115 grain bullet traveling 2650 fps out of an M-16 16 " barrel. The 6.8 is a Remmington necked down to a 270.  This seems quite similar to the 7.62X39.Your imput is appreciated.

Seems like a worthy project for the military. It would be able to hit further out, harder, and with just as much accuracy.

Downsides? Mag capacity would be around 25-27 rounds.

Although, retrofitting M-16s to fire this round would be MUCH cheaper than a whole new rifle.
