New Mag inspection and testing procedure?

Is there a thread anywhere that covers basic new mag inspection and testing? Things that you should do to a new mag before using it? I have seen diffrent threads with things talking about deburing and using a wooden ruler and such. Was looking for one post that had a good overall explination of these steps and photos with it would make it even better.

The best thing to do is shoot shoot shoot it and let it have quality bonding time with your rifle. If needed, send me the mags (loaded with 30rds) and I will test and evaluate them for you.

If you feel you MUST do something, Take a screwdriver or ruler and depress the follower up and down the inside of the mag a couple of times, or load it and-

Just shoot it

I heard that's good for removing all of those burrs on the inside!

I think he is talking about deburring the followers. I think the guys at magpul encourage you to do that if you install their followers. Some of them seem to have excessive amounts of flash on them.

All I can say with my experience with New GI mags with green followers, is I
-unwrap them
-spray paint a stenciled ID number on each one
- add a Gen 1 Mag pul
-load up 28 rds
-Shoot

if I have a problem, I trouble shoot and reshoot them
if trouble persists..... in the trash and unwrap a new one.....

I make life real simple.

have not had a problem yet....

This is just my opinion and we manufacture magazines.....If you cannot take the mag out of the bag, load 30 rounds(or the number you like) and fire, send it back to the manufacturer and that includes us. Could you imagine if our military or LE had to tweak their mags prior to use in a firefight? Lock and load, fire!!!!

You'd think at $2 a piece those things should be perfect. The standard GI followers actually seem to be much higher quality. How do I know? I'm one of the dumb asses on this site that bought some. Won't be buying more though.

Yep. I've probably seen it at least 87 times or so...

Seriously, try this procedure:

1. [picking up mag] "Looks like a mag..."

2. [loading rounds] "Loads like a mag..."

3. [inserting into weapon] "Fits like a mag..."

4. [firing weapon] "Dang! Works (or doesn't) like a mag, too!"

This regimen has always served me well.

Magpul fixed the flash issues in the second version (the grey ones). DSG is running a SS special for grey teflon mags with w/ Gen II magpul for $11 apiece. Normally I would not get the magpuls for at that price I figured why not.

Fire new (or new to you) mags a few times with only 5 rounds. Generally, when there is a problem, it is due to weak springs. If it will feed the last 5 and lock back the bolt carrier, the mag is usually good to go.
