Just got registered, this is my first post! I want to thank everyone who contributes, I've found lots of great info here. To sum up my ten year experience with firearms, I'm just a concerned and responsible CCW holder here in FL. No military or LE experience. I've had crime experiences. My mothers purse was snatched just when she went to the bank to make a large deposit. I wasn't there but my Doberman was, she just couldn't get the dog out to help. I've been robbed working retail, I've been robbed at knifepoint. I made the mistake of walking to the ATM as it was getting dark and was followed by 2 suspicious perps on the way home. I ducked into a gas station, called a cab. But about ten years ago, my sister was shot in the leg working late at the supermarket by a guy in a cycle helmet. No bone, no artery, very lucky. But that's not all, some homeless guy wandered into her house one night, scared her to death. She moved into an apartment up 4 flights of stairs. Funny how we never got shot in NY. None of us really go out much at night anymore. So, I carry. I don't run fast, I don't hit hard, and just too old to take an ass whooping.

My weapon of choice? I've owned a Diamondback .380, Glock 36, a Sig Nitron Rail, Sig TTT, and a Sig P556 AR Pistol. I say "owned" because I got rid of them all. The DB and TTT were unfired. I thought I'd like to have a pocket pistol but the .380 was just too small, I wanted a custom .45 but the Sigs aren't suited for that. I added an Aro-Tek slide release to the G36 because I couldn't get a Glock release for that model and it just became a jam-o-matic. I also wanted more bullets even though I considered the single stack more reliable. The 36 is thinner and easy to carry but I rented a G30 and it was just so much better. I think a .45 needs the extra bulk to function properly and the fatigue and pain I got after 50 rds with the 36 made me switch. I didn't mind the fat grip of the 30, probably why it's so comfortable, but I bought a G30SF for the light rail. Sent it out for slide and barrel chrome, barrel throat and polish, street action job (which also smoothed and lightened the trigger), and a Glock slide release. It turned out really sweet and it's super easy to clean. I love it, it's THE gun. I plan on keeping this one forever and I'd like to add a custom 1911 to the collection. Maybe a Dan Wesson, send it out for some work too. I miss the Nitron Rail a lot. It had the Hogue with the grooves, an arched mainspring magwell, and an Insight light/laser. Was great at the range and in the nightstand. It would be okay in the car but I don't want to carry a full size 1911. D*** I want it back!

I wanted to introduce myself but man, I'm rambling now! Back to the topic, I'm rebuilding my collection and I realize I miss the Sig P556 too. I spent a lot of money and it was really awkward as I have no rifle experience. Funny how the quad SWAT pistols were going for $2k and now can be had for $1200! What I really would like is an LWRC 6.8 but I'm back to spending a ton of money again. I was tempted by the cheap Draco pistols and may very well end up with one of those too.

But check this out!

Aero Precision is a main player in the AR-57 Project and they're also an OEM for Armalite. I don't doubt their quality. I found a new company putting together AR Pistols with their uppers and lowers for not a lot of money. This company is going to have a site up soon with some supposedly breakthrough AOW, SBR, and SBS weapons. I'd love to post the name of the company, the website, and my contact over there. I really searched the AR-15 site looking for an answer on whether I could do that outside of the WTS section but couldn't find any info. Please let me know if it's okay to post, or message me and I will send privately.

Here are the specs and a picture. Price is $695! I have one on layaway as a Xmas present for myself. Thanks to the group, I know what I want to add to it, and what kind of ammo to use. I'm looking for feedback, pros and cons. I think I want them to add a Levang for me, I don't want to install it. I would add MBUS, PA Gen3 Dot, LaRue LT751 mount, the magnifier would be sweet too, Magpul 20 rounders, a pistol light/laser that could do double duty on my Glock, Magpul XTMs and rail ladders, and a custom buffer tube cover from Stitcher if I can get one!

I personally believe a magnifier would be a waste of space and weight on a 7.5" pistol, but that's up to you.
I built a 7.5" and knowing it will be used for short distance, wanted to keep it lite and manueverable.
I use a stand alone rear sight and a rail mounted front sight. I also use a TLR2 onr the bottom rail dialed in at 25 yards.

Thanks for the reply. Man, what you've got there is really quite similar. It's good to see. The magnifier would be a tight fit. I realized I wanted one for my P556 but without a cheek weld I gave up. The buffer tube makes it possible and for sighting the dot and laser, and paper punching at 50 yds, I really would like one if it wasn't too expensive. Defensively I wouldn't need it, nor the laser. If i had the dot that is. I actually like yours with sights and light/laser. Its simple, light, effective, and i could use the TLR on my Glock too. I realize MBUS sights shouldn't go on a hot gas block. I may need a steel option, or go for a shorter sight radius with the plastic. It looks like you went with the Levang. How does it perform and does it keep the front of the pistol clean?

Oh! What do you think of the specs of my layaway pistol? I've seen shorter tubes but the longer ones are they more reliable? And the 1:7 twist would be better for the heavier rounds needed to make up for the short barrel. I wonder if I should have gotten the 11.5 barrel.

Thanks for the feedback!

The Levang does what it's supposed to, send the blast down range instead of to the sides. It also "pushes" the pistol back instead of a sharp jump.
1/9 is fine. Unless you are shooting 75 gr. and 77 gr., I wouldn't worry about it.
I use Hollow Point so I'm not real concerned about the fragmentation issue.
The carbine(longer) buffer tube not only works better but gives you more room for a cheek weld. If you mount a single point sling on it you can adjust it so whe you pull the weapon up and push against the sling, it helps steady your shots.
Another real small, lite weight optic I just tried is the Relflex Green Dot from Primary Arms. Very small, easy to see the green dot, and about $80. Not something to take to war but it seems pretty well built so far. Plus Primary Arms has great customer Service and is a site sponser.

I haven't seen hollow points, the Nosler Partitions and BarnesXs were recommended. I always use Federal, Speer, or American Eagle. All the same MFG really. Single point bungee is the way to go I think. I like the Levang idea. Lighter than the Pig and only $30. Keep from setting people's hair on fire! But does it keep the front end clean? That would be a big plus for me. ;)

$80 for a reflex is a good price, hell the Sig dots are only $99 too. I think I like your rail better, mine is on 2 planes and besides iron sights, I don't want anything else getting hot on there. The look of it is cool, not the temp - haha.

We used Federal TRU HP's on the PD. They were effective without over penetration.

You can see a pic of the Green Dot in the center of my .22 build.
