welp i jus was thinkin bout my inventory..i have 2 ARs , one i would consider tactical, the other i would consider long range..i was jus thinkin bout sellin the long range one to get a .308 tactical rifle,i dont have ne highpowered rifles right now. jus curious bout what you all think..the only reason i wouldnt jus keep both ARs is cause i jus dont have the room, so i gotta keep inventory low. thanks for playing.

I decided to drop my SPR project for a good bolt gun so I agree ith the idea of a good .308 bolt gun if funds are tight.

From what I understand from reading, shooting and talking to an old army armorer that I deal with, you can't go wrong with a Rem 700.

Remington 700 LTR. You lose very little velocity at 20" and its just as accurate as its big brother out to 600 yards or so. I dont even have a range over 600 yards anywhere within 300 miles of me that I know of. If you want to upgrade the barrel after its shot out/you get bored get a Krieger. Its a lot of cash but there is no better barrel made. Use Badger Mounts and Rings and a Leupold M1 or M3 LR scope. [:)]

I would second Devl's choice of the Rem LTR. About the same gun as the PSS and less $$$.

I have a Remington 700 VS .308 with a Springfield .308 calibrated tactical scope... We can go 500 yards apart and each get one shot at the other... Me with my Remy, you with ANY AR you like... I like my chances better than your's. [naughty]

Has anyone here heard of the Fulton Armory FN Special Police Rifle in .308 Win??? Got a great write up in Gun Tests. Their smallest group at 100Yds was .3", their largest .8" (3 shot groups) and it goes for a grand. It's bore is also chrome lined. It may be an alternative. (Fulton Armory 301-490-9485)

Do like I just did, get a base model Savage tactical, replace the stock with a Stockade brand $235 I got OD green and scoop a leupold Tactical model $300 to $500 up off of eBay, there's some good one's on there now. Two piece leupold weaver base $25 and IOR Valdada Tactical rings $90, and you have a quality rig that will shoot....Hot-damm!!!!!!

Before going and spending your hard earned money on a bolt gun, go and do some research. Go to www.snipershide.com for a wealth of information from kind and helpful people on the discussion forum. They helped me get my first SWS squared away... Cheers!

For what ists worth the FN SPR is a fine precision rifle and its the ony one ou thtere that is .5 MOA capable and it has a CHROM LINED BARREL. Its based off a controlled feed Winchester M70 action and the barrel is an M240 machinegun barrel. They are much more than a Remington 700 P or LTR. However it is HEAVY! How heavy? The 20" barreled FN SPR weighs MORE than a full on Remington 700P with a 26" barrel. The thing is a brick so you better like HEAVY rifles.

I must be a OLD S.O.B. ot something, I am kind of partial to the Winchester Model 70 (pre 64) if you can still find them but The Model 70 Stealth is a reat Bolt Gun....I have it in both .223 and .308. great for praire dogs and great for coyotes
