ARFCOM way is always to get both which is the way I did it myself.

All you guys are saying mid length of M4gery... but WHY? What is the reason?
I already own a 20" Bushmaster and am trying to decide between an M4gery or a Midlength and can't decide. Thanks. |

The mid length gas system cycles smoother, is easier on parts and has less muzzle rise. |

My middy upper started out as a Colt 6721 tactical carbine M4 upper with the stock H-BAR barrel and after test firing it stock, I decided to replace the barrel with a new mid length gas system barrel. The barrel is a mid weight contour Rockcreek (Mike Rock), Mil-Spec chrome moly vanadium, chrome lined, 1/7, M4 feedramps, high pressure and MP tested "Operator" from Denny's Guns (Global Tactical Supply). My new mid length, mid weight barrel made my 6721 handle better and easy to carry around because of the lighter barrel, I really don't prefer H-BAR barrels. I also replaced the handguards with LaRue 9.0 rails. I'm also using a Colt M16 BCG with Wolff extra power extractor spring. My other CAR M4gery upper is made by LMT. Both my carbines shoots fine but the middy feels a little smoother and is my favorite so far.

midlength. Forget about the M4 look until you get an SBR and have extra cash lying around for a second upper. Then get a 14.5 and A2.

Man, that Colt custom middy is TITS!! I always wanted an LMT or Colt middy, and never thought of customizing a barrel myself...

Thanks, yes it's easy to remove and replace the barrel to a middy all that's needed is an average assembly skill and tools, I did it myself. The beauty of the AR-15 system what ever the brand, is that it could be customized to your liking and there are more and more available mid length barrels now like Denny's Operator, Denny's SS Recon, RRA stock or custom contoured by ADCO, CMMG, Sabre Defence, etc. and more coming from Bravo Co. Mfg in March. |

Your eventually going to have both , so myself I would go with the middy first , then the M4 . Pick the one you like the best get it now figguring on getting the other next . Thats how I look at it .

Denny of Global Tactical Supply at the EE are always going to sell the "Operator" barrel, they are out of stock for now but they are making another batch and should be available in a couple of months from now. I also forgot to mention that the Operator barrel is full auto rated because that is the primary design goal of this barrel because Denny is a machine gun guy. Standard handguards for the mid-length gas system barrels are a special mid-length size which is approx. 9 inches long, for reference the CAR/ M4 are about 7 inches long and the rifle full length are about 12 inches long. There are two styles of standard handguards available for the mid-length, a tapered CAR type and an oval section shape M4 type. The handguards are available from CavalryArms.com in three colors, black, green and coyote brown and priced from $30 to $35. They're also available from major manufacturers like Armalite, RRA, Sabre Defence and others. The mid-length handguards usually fit the triangular (rifle type) front handguard caps. |

they can mount a boyonet. the dissapator uses the longer 12" handguard

+1 what animalmother said is correct. I just wanted to add that the Dissipator types uses a special bayonet with a very short handle. |
