Can anyone steer me to a good weapon light that can have filters attached, easily, and can easily attach via rings to a picatinney rail? Thumb actuated would be nice, I got the GG&G vertical foregrip light offset mount so the foregrip hand can manipulate the light with the thumb.

If you tell us your intended purpose, it would help a lot.

Are you planning on using it indoors/outdoors? Home defense? Do you want to be able to take it outside and spot targets 100 yards away?

Agree. First define what you want to use the light for and how far you need throw light out to. Then figure out what you want pay.

Do you need 35m, 50m, 75m performance? Pick the max you will need.
What is your budget?

I ended up getting a LaRue, it's not as super bright as some other lights, and is a little heavy, but it's only about $ 200 and seems more than adequate for short range, inside work. With an unlimited budget a Surefire M900 would be fun to try out...

I am also looking for the right Surefire light myself. Will any surefire work as a weapon light? Are some not shock resistant enough to mount t the AR? I really like the E2D

Would this work for a weapon light?

What about green lasers? Last time I looked them up they were really expensive! Like costing a person their left kidney!

The E2D wil work as a weaponlgith, but remember that it isn't shock isolated. If you go with that light then I would recommend the VLTOR E Series mount.

If budget is not an isue like you say I reccomend you get the Night Ops Gladius. More range than any of the Surefire 6V lights, can be used as both a main light and a nav light, recoil proof, waterproof, more life than any Surefire incandecent light, etc. Its a pushbotton tail cap for now with a tape switch option coming before Christmas. Id only look at Surefire for the Ultralight (M600 or E2D) or Long range (Surefire 9v Millenium series)

I used to have an M900A and decided I did not need the additional range over 50m (and 20oz weight) and I am toally pleased with the Gladius. Newest versions use a black hard coat anodised body. Price is $200-235 depending on who you buy it from.

The E2E/E2D's are proving to be quite tough when in use on the AR's. So far several of our customers have been very pleased with the performance of the original Scout series (which was essentially an E2D) and mounted E2E/E2D's.

Some are also using the KL1 & KL4 LED heads which significantly reduce the risk of failure. LED's are different than an incandascent though, for rifle use and disctances greater than 25-30yds., incandascents have better performance.

I disagree. The Gladius has better throw than my Surefires running P60 lamps and its a 3 watt LED. Surefire just does nto have the electronics and reflector design of the Gladius but I am sure they will catch up eventually.

The reflector design used by the Gladius is not exclusive to Night-Ops that I'm aware of. It's a case of them using one of the best available reflectors for the LuxeonIII - you get basically the same beam as other flashlights using the same reflector.
SureFire decided to go the "optic" rather than the "reflector" route for the LuxeonIII. I'm not convinced that the optics have developed sufficiently to replace reflectors - not for everyday illumination like I use anyway.

The electronics of the Gladius and it's switching are not something SureFire have released a version of themselves. I doubt they will use PWM 'regulation' but this is the thing - Night-Ops have raised the competition and I hope it means everybody in the flashlight industry is raising their games - competition is good when it means investment in new designs and technology.

I would have to agree. The throw of the Gladius will kick the crap out of most Xenon gas filled bulbs.

You mean P60 right? P61 has a larger hot spot but it runs 20 min where the Gladius runs 70+ minutes.

Both Daniel Defense and Viking Tactics mount will work.
You won't be sorry if you get a Gladius
