Finally got sick of making my 'upper' wish list over and over.  This is for my first build, and I have only owned an AR15 (a bushmaster carbon) for a month.  I am a REAL h.  Since I have a 16" barreled ar, I thought the other extreme, a 24" varminter would be a fun addition, and decided to build it myself.  So the other night, I grabbed the CC and went to cyber-town.  A woman with a CC and an internet connection is a dangerous thing...

Wilson 24" air gauge from Rock River.  Hope the wait is not too long.
CMT flatop upper w/assist and door installed.  Not m4 cut.
LMT chrome lined bolt assembly.
Gas tube and nut (did not know if the Wilson came with a nut, couldn’t hurt to have a spare?)
Bushmaster varminter float tube.
Have a charging handle already.
Bushy action block, DPMS multi tool and a punch set.  Have a vise and a garage full of all kinds of tools (my dad worked for Lockheed and is a tool nut) so I am ok there.
And of course, the guides stickied at the top of this forum (great forum!  I hang out here as much as I do on the Parallax forum!).
Am I missing anything?

Can't decide on a bipod (Harris?) or buis.  I'm thinking, Troy front folding rail and Troy? rear, (have a Leopold 3x9 w/warne rings already.)  Suggestions?

My other question is on the LMT 2 stage trigger w/the anti walk pins.  Good choice?  I figure I can always put it on the bushy if I want something better later (the bushy trigger aint my Schmitt Rubin trigger, that's for sure).

Sorry for the long post, I’ve been agonizing these choices for over a week now, and have yet to finalize the lower bits hinking.gif  And my CC is smoking from overuse already...

I promise to post some pics when it is all done.  I'm in CA, and have to sit on my lowers till they gets put on the 'bad' list, then I have to register 'em before I can build it.  But I can get the upper done!

Welcome to BRD!

dont know about CA restrictions on ARs, so i cant comment on that

it sounds like a great build....what kinda lower, LPK, and stock?

LMT 2 stage is pretty reputable (no personaly expierence)--try a serch on "trigger"
current topic: www.ar15.com/forums/topic.html?b=3&f=118&t=275945

i'd get the BUIS....bipods dont do much for me as i prefer a rucksack (or sandbags)

what kinda nut? bbl nut? the FF tube should come with the threads or second threaded nut to lock in your bbl and tube (strap wrench and vice will come in handy for installation)
what kinda gas block/FSB are you planning on using?

good luck

The Lower is a Doublestar.  The stock, will probably be the Magpul adjustable one (lop and comb).  And I answered one of my own questions by ordering a Geissele DMR from Adco just now!  (See what you did by pointing me to that great earlier post?  Made me spend $100 more than I had budgeted hen and eating my earthquake emergency supplies for a few months his.  And I have a second lower fermenting like wine, waiting for me to make up my mind (and pay for all the parts I just bought).  Then the whole process starts all over again!

The barrel comes with a railed gas block, and the nut is a barrel nut. (Sometimes, I think the nut is me hmaster
Fighting the good fight in CA! hank.

You free-state folks count your blessings...

sounds like you are ready (except for the parts to arrive)

some money and time saving advice: dont order parts directly from the AR distributors (like RRA, bushy, etc)

try out the other dealers in the EE/Industry forum--they will have better prices and faster shipping as the big distributors focus maninly on suppling FFL and store dealers and not individuals

for example: i'm sure that someone in the industry area or "AR uppers" in the EE  (ADCO or eaglefirearms.net maybe) have a 24in RRA/Wilson varmit bbl in stock ready to ship for a better price than RRA's own website

the Bushy Varmite FF tube should have the bbl nut included--it will not be the same as a standard bbl nut (slightly cheaper prices at other dealers too for LPKs, FF tubes, etc, but dealing w/ bushmaster is great)

Thanks for the reply Alphaghost!

That trigger came in from Adco so fast, the package was smoking!  Good Job Adco!  So I ordered the barrel, a lpk sans trigger and a Tangodown grip from them just now!  By comparison, the tools, pins and springs, and tube from Bushmaster, ordered a week ago are still no where in sight.  Got Warn Tactical rings (very nice) from Mid South Shooters, a beautiful CMT upper from GTS and LMT chrome lined bolt group from Bravo.

One day, this will be (hopefully) a nice varminter...
