National Ordnance sells an 80% 10/22 receiver. Has anyone here ever tried to do one of these? Or have you heard anything, good or bad, about these receivers? Difficult to finish with basic tools and a benchtop press? Any info you've got is very much appreciated.

And yes, I know that for just a few bucks more I can buy a new 10/22, but where's the fun in that?

You might have better luck posting your question on the 10/22 Action forum at www.Rimfirecentral.com. Someone there should know.

You might have to register to post, just like here, but it's free and relatively painless.

yeah.... you can spend a little more. Then repalce the barrel, stock, fire control parts, et. al.

and end up spending twice as much. Or you cna jsut make the darn receiver and buy what parts you want.

There's a real good write-up about this in the forums over at the Roderus Custom Guns website (RCG Forums).

The thread was written by "aleaddict" who's the moderator of the 22 Rimfire forum over there. He's also a regular poster over at RimFireCentral (RFC). His write-up is the best I've seen on finishing one of the 80% NOC 10/22 receivers. Here's the direct link to the thread.
